:( My friends bub (8mth) has severe nappy rash, it doesn't appear to be thrush as there are no white spots(is this the typical sign of thrush?). The skin is red, inflamed and itchy. Does nappy rash get itchy? My friend has started applying vaseline as a barrier, the cream she was using was making it worse. Has your child ever had severe nappy rash and what did you do to get rid of it? She uses huggies. Thanks!

Neither of my girls have ever complained of itchy bum nappy rash but they couldn't talk either and weren't scratching......how does she know it is itchy?
Anyway, my DD1 used to get really bad rash when she had teeth coming through, red, weepy, horrible!! I used vaseline as a barrier and I found amolin cream helped clear it up quickly. Also the castor and zinc creams worked well when she was little.
Another couple of things that were suggested to me were cornflour or paw paw ointment. I don't know if these will help clear it up or work better as preventative measures.

Aloe Vera, straight from the plant is the best nappy rash treatment EVER. Its cheap, keeps growing more and is readily avaliable.
I've usedit for years...as a preventative and have had no nappy rash problems EVER...

Oh moonbutt couldn't resist getting in on the butt thread
I forgot about aloe vera, my mum always used it straight from the plant with me and apparently my bum was always just gorgeous!! I can't quite remember that far back......
I found paw paw ointment worked wonders for me. We have had some really bad nappy rashes some even with slight bleeding and the paw paw fixed it very fast.

I've used sudocreme on my bub's butt at most changes and she's never had even a bit of redness (touch wood *am touching own head*). I use aloe on just about every other scatch or red spot though:thumbsup:

I used to use the curash cream until bubs got really bad one time & was at my wits end plus it was ruining my cloth nappies sticking to them.
I found my new saviour there is a nappy rash cream made by Brauers & its awesome !!! All natural with tea tree & calendula plus i do believe it may have the aloe vera in it also its great ! Worked its magic in a matter of 2hrs for us.
I know this isnt the easiest thing to do but whenever my DD has nappy rash i leave her nappy off all day and by the end of the day it's gone!
She has had it where she had a little bit of broken skin, really red and inflamed. I took her nappy off and by night time all the skin had healed and the redness had pretty much gone.
My mother taught me that fresh air works better than any cream you buy in the shops, and she has had 5 children.
Its a messy business cleaning up after they do number 2's!!  But its so worth it!!
I think that Bepanthan is the best for getting rid of nappy rash adn also works well for preventing it.
I love it, i use it for everything.
Cornflour - straight from the pantry. We dont use creams, and living in chilly Canberra makes it terribly difficult to grow an aloe plant big enough to rip some leaves off it LOL
Try the cornflour...its cheap and the best thing I have found by far.
