Child Care Rebate

I am SO confused. I know that from this year we get 50% of out of pocket expenses, but what about 2007-2008.
Ie.. DS was in childcare from July 2007 to December 2007. When do I get that 30% out of pocket back?
It's not through tax, right? Its through Centrelink.

if it is the same as last year it will be after you have lodged your tax return and your child care centre has lodged their end of year reconciliations then Centrelink will pay the money into your bank account.

I had actually thought in the past that you claimed for the year prior to last. That is, come July we will do our tax returns for the 07/08 financial year. The CCR will be paid on the 06/07 financial year.

I could be wrong though, and it may only have been the case the first year it was brought in. I have no doubt someone else here will have more info though.

You are right that this is how it used to be - cause it has only recently changed (last year I think) so this year the 30% rebate will be for the 07-08 year just like tax. We got the rebate for 06-07 year last year.

So july 07-Dec 07 I can claim this year? Its automatically calculated by Centrelink? (FAO).
They said I will get it in Oct? Thats going to be nearly 1.5 years from when I used it?

yep. that's right. they can't do the calculation until your child care centre has lodged their end of year figures.

I don't know how they are going to do it every three months now. Whether they get the child care centre to reconcile every 3 months, or get us to provide receipts, or make payments each three months and then do a reconciliation at the end of the year....

They are introducing a Child Care Management System that brings all approved childcare services online and inline with the FAO. I only know the basics, but I am sure you may find further information in a search...
