Please help me think of a fantastic thoughtful present for my sister in law. She gave me a very expensive gift ($400) which I told her I didnt want as I couldnt spend that much on her. Well here we are. I am very crafty and a master ebayer and would appreciate any ideas you have.

You can buy some lovely gift packs that are all essential baby items folded and put together to look like cakes or flowers. I think they're really sweet.

My fav gift from my baby shower was a whole heap of frozen meals had enough for two weeks after I got home with baby. Which was so great as I have three other kids and had to have a cs and am single mum.But whatever curcumstances who wants to cook when they get home with new bub?

You could get a nice basket and fill it with lots of small inexpensive things from the list JL posted above! :)

Wrap it in Celophane and Ribbon, its exciting getting lots of little gifts in a big basket (or box)! LOL

Why not have a go at making your own nappy cake ? There are a few really good sites out there and they show you the finished cake and tell you what is in them.

My mum was a great cross stitcher and used the afghan rugs to make bunny rugs with. She would do cute little cross stiches in some of the squares. It took a bit of time but was absolutly beautiful. In the centre square she would cross stitch the birth details of the first born and leave squares around it for birth details of new family additions!
Defineatly a family keepsake!
Other easier ideas would be a single cross stich framed (which is what i like doing as wedding presents.)

You could organise a scrapbook album for on the day of the shower. Get the guests to bring a photo of themselves, either now, or as babies, and get them to write their favourite baby tip, or baby story, or what they are looking forward to doing with upcoming baby etc...

the other day I made a 'wreath' (like the ones you hang on your door at christmas) for a baby shower. I made it from Nappies and other baby things, kind of like the nappy cake idea but a bit different - I think it came out pretty cute! I don't have a picture, but if you PM PunkyDiva she might be nice enough to take a photo, it's at her house.

My VERY favourite gift I got when DS was born was from my dad - there is a shop here that has home cooked meals to takeaway. He gave he a voucher for there. It was wonderful - I didn't have to cook for nearly a month after DS's birth - just pop down there once a week and pick up some meals. Their avocado chicken pie was to die for!! it's in melbourne if you happen to be from here - or I'm sure there are others around
