I've had nothing but bad experiences with CHN's and I'm wondering whether to bother taking Jedd for his 12mth check up. I know he is doing well and is fine so its not for any reason like that - its more to just fill in his blue book. Those pages may as well be good for something.
Did you bother?
We don't have them as standard here. The standard one is 8 months, then 18 months. I took him to be weighed at 12 months, just because I hadn't weighed him in MONTHS and I was curious. Other than that, there's no big deal. Unless you're worried about something, there's no need. I take Hamish for his scheduled ones, because our CHN's are so lovely and it's a nice chance for a cuppa and a chat.

I only really do it for the blue book history i guess, its something that the kids can have when they are older. I know that my kids are healthy and all but its still nice to have a record and even though i know i am doing the right thing its nice to get that "oh shes doing well" pep talk. Sounds stupid but its reassuring for me. Its funny though you mention it i was sitting with the kids the other night and we were comparing health books, weights lengths etc so it was interesting for them and i am glad that i did it now.
I pretty much stopped at 12 months but i did do the 3.5 check merely for kinder purposes as they have asked if they have one when you enrol them so it was like a yes shes ready sort of thing.
I have had good and bad CHN so i can relate to why some dont go. I guess i have learnt now though to just smile and say oh yes ok

i think i went till 6mths and stopped going, there was no point, some of the time i was educating her!!!
I know what im doing, i have 100% faith in myself, he was also a good size so i didn't have to worry about him being under weight.
So no i don't bother :)
I didn't worry about it:no: There is NO WAY I will go to the CHN in our town, lol...I have heard from too many people that she is always gossiping to people about other parents and threatening to 'make the call...' (ie. DOCS)
Same as Jax....I woud know if there was something that wasnt right or that needed to be checked out:)

I've never been to a CHN....not once! :D
So no I didn't bother lol. If you think he's fine, he's fine ;)
By 12 months they were well out of the picture.
Next time, they won't get a look in.
Save yourself the trip luv, just look in the mirror and tell yourself that everything you are doing is wrong ;).

Cheers.
Or maybe you could do it for me? Just so I can experience the humiliation and determination to come back with resources proving them wrong
I think I'll pop in tomorrow to weigh him (just out of curiosity) and leave it at that.

Well I went and forgot about all the new mothers in the waiting room! It felt so good when I was chatting with them about all my breastfeeding issues - to be able to say that we were still bf'ing 12 months later! All these new mums going through those horrible first few weeks and all chatting together... I forgot how good it is to support someone in those weeks.
I felt like my encouragement to check their babies on the WHO growth charts instead of the CHN's were the seed planted that those new mums needed. And gosh - even if they went into the CHN afterwards and she told them that I was full of it - it felt so good to be able to plant that seed!
So... I think I'm going to go to the CHN more often :D
