View Full Version : Hormone / Milk Rash?

My little girl has a very nasty case of hormone / milk rash that's all over her face and goes down her neck and even a little bit on her chest.

She's had it for over a week and a half now (she's almost 5 weeks old) and it started out with a few "pimples" on one cheek and has spread. I was just washing her face with plain water, but then her skin starting looking really dry and crusty, so I've been putting Bepanthen on it.

So, my questions are

1. Is the Bepanthen a good idea? It's helping the dry/crusty bits, but will it stop the rash from healing?

2. Is there something else I can try putting on it?

3. How long does it usually last before clearing up?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Cindye,

Looks awful doesn't it. Good thing is that it doesn't worry them at all and causes no discomfort. Well, didn't for my DS and he was so badly covered that the GP wanted to prescribe antibiotics. I didn't give them to him in the end, but what I did do was smother his little scalp, face and neck in breast milk. If you are breastfeeding I cannot recommend this highly enough. It worked wonders and cleared it up in no time at all. It makes them look a bit greasy/sticky/shiney so if you are going somewhere I would do it at bed time in the evening. If you are breastfeeding, give this a go .

Hi there. My little girl had that too but a mild case. my CHN suggested Alpha Kerri lotion. It seems to have helped us.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'll try the breastmilk first (it's free!), and then the lotion if i need to.

How long before it cleared up?

Cindye, it didn't take long to clear up at all. I was quite amazed actually. I have to say I noticed a visible difference within 24 hours. I really hope it works for you as it did for us. I literally drenched his little face and scalp in it. I just expressed some into a container and sponged it all over with a cotton ball. Was fantastic. Good luck!!
