hi :wave:, my name is allira and i am third year social work student from newcastle. i am working at a community centre as part of my course. i am interested in starting a group for young mothers, where they can come and bring their kids and get to know other mothers. i was wondering if any of you could offer me advice on what the best way to involve young mums is and what you would like to get out of a group
thanks so much :)

I think advertising the group would be a good start. There doesn't seem to be many young mum groups out there and the ones that do exist aren't well publisied.

I think if i attended a group the thing i would be looking for most is just to make friends within the same age group and circumstance as i am.

Maybe a good start would be to advertise on the internet (even right here!), and maybe put up posters, in a newspaper??depending on your resources.

Another good place to target would be doctor's surgeries, putting up posters there (what mother doesn't need to go there at least sometime), and maybe call up the local hospital and see if they have an outbranch of special antenatal classes for mothers under 19 (I know they do here is all), and advertise there.

Good luck:thumbsup::sunshine:!

thanks heaps for your input, its all really helpful. i think our main problem here is that there isn't any public transport and its a long long walk up to the main road, but i'll persist any way because it is worth it even if we only gat a few people coming:)
