Wasn't 100% sure whether to put this in the IVF section or the Private Health Insurance section...let's hope I got it right :)
Has anyone any experience in going through IVF as a private patient? What did your fund contribute (if any)

Layla, Have you given your health fund a call to see what they will pay for? When we were initially given our paperwork from the clinic, it had some item numbers on it and we took it to our PHI, and they told us what they would pay out on and what they wouldn't.
We have hospital and extras, and are with Westfund. They paid for the bed (no excess or co-payment) plus some towards our anaesthetist. I spent the TWW on Crinone and then the remainder of the first trimester on the pessaries and provera and progynova, our PHI paid some money towards the crinone and pessaries, but not the provera and progynova as I hadn't spent more than something like $50 on them.
We were also lucky enough to be able to claim a couple of hundred dollars for travel for our EPU and transfer.
With medicare and NIB I got back about 90% of all my fees and charges.
There was a few procedures that were not covered by medicare at the time (but are now) and I had to pay them out of pocket.
I also had to pay the $600 excess when I was hospitalised with OHSS but the cost of spending 10 days in a private room in a private hospital was worth it!.
So all up I think we were about $2000 out of pocket for IVF but that included travelling and accommodation to and from Brisbane as well.

Just a hint, check the level of cover you have, we have hospital only and it turns out our fund will only cover the bare minimum on our level of cover, private patient in public hospital only and limited in what we can claim.

With the out of pocket expenses, does it also including the drs fees/ob-gyn fees..?
is that the cost you gave me is the grand total of how much you spent on IVF from the beginning?
Thank you so much! your information meant alot to me!! btw I am from NSW. anymore infos from anyone lived in NSW would be highly appreciated!!
