Jedd has outgrown his size S PUL covers (finally at 1yo lol) and we're ready to go up to the next size to put our dozen fitteds back into rotation. I can't afford the BB PUL covers like I would prefer - but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the cheap covers you can pick up from Big W or the like? Would they suffice in the mean time? I need to cut expenses as much as possible and getting those extra fitteds into rotation will definitely help.
Thanks in advance
Honestly... I really didn't find them very good at all. Left red marks around their legs and leaked.
Have you looked at getting a pack of 4 of Bummis PUL covers???
You'd only need 4, as you don't have to wash them with every change.. just air them out.
Check it out at Darling Downunder...
It's worth buying them rather than getting some Big W ones that don't work.
ALSO... as it's coming into winter and getting cold.. I find that Bonds Polar Fleece trakkie pants are brilliant as covers. Generally I just put a fitted on Gabs and then his Bonds Polar Fleece trakkies... so no need for another cover.
And versatile too.. as they're pants. :D
Cheaper than buying PUL covers anyway.
DO you sew at all? You could go to Spotlight and get some polar fleece and make your own trakkies.. (with a double layer in the wet zone) for daytime use... that would work a treat too, and come out much cheaper again.

I haven't used any of the covers with material on the outside of them but I have used the PVC pilchers. Honesty next time I won't be using them as much simply because they go brittle and crack so quickly. But for a short time they aren't that bad and you can pick up a 3 pack for about $2. They do keep all the moisture in thats for sure. The PVC doesn't breath either so it can get sweaty for bubs.

I hadn't even thought of the Bummis - shall check them out now! Its been so long since I've had to buy covers  Thats a good idea about the pants too - we do use fleece trackpants at the moment anyway... I thought it would need a cover too?
Unfortunately I dont sew - I wish I did though!!!
you don't need a cover if the pants you are using are 100% polyester... that's the catch.
if they are a polyester/cotton blend, they aren't waterphobic, they're absorbant and become wet...
but 100% polyester stays dry as dry can be.

Its a shame you cant sew but i bought some covers online they were the brightbots ones $7 each and they have a hidden PUL layer and a terry outer. Work great :)
Ally i don't know much about all this clothies stuff but thought it might be worth mentioning as PB mentioned bright bots. TradeSecret at hillsdale (southpoint) has heaps of bright bots stuff so might be worth a look as i know i have seen brightbots cloth nappy stuff there.
Might be worth a little detour next time you go to easties or even easier a phone call.

just checked they do still have their buy 2 get one free special on at th emoment which would save you a fair bit.
might be worth checking out
i guess the ones from big w and things arent PUL they are PVC so they wont breath and not be very friendly towards Jedds bum i think
what about some second hand covers?

So all these sizes seem to be either...
Medium 7-11kg
Large 12-whatever kg
Jedd is just on 10kg now... would the Large size in whichever brand be too big??
RMUMR - thats a great idea! I'm heading that way tomorrow so will definitely check it out :)
Gabriel is 10kgs..
I find that the medium fits fine over day nappies, but he needs a large for night time.

I forgot about the BB sale! Cheers for that Kellie :)
I have checked out the nappy auction site (cant remember if i'm allowed to say it here) and there isn't a lot there.

Don't forget Eenies plastic pants - they're PUL but made like the PVC plastic pants. They're about $8 for one pair and come in a range of sizes...and claim to be good for 100 washes...maybe good in the short-term?

Oh yeah - I still have the hospital pack of biodegradable eenees that i bought for Jedd. He's little now but he was massive when he was born and they were too small! lol
I think the BB PUL covers might be better. It'll be $23 for 3 covers - so I might get a tote bag as well so I have no excuse to not keep up with the cloth when I'm out and about. I get so slack when hubby is away... grrrrrr

Not sure about other sizings but ive had the mediums in the Blueberry's, BB's & TotsBots that have all worked well since Squeak was a newbie especially over a well padded BBB till now !

So I ordered 3 L BB PUL covers + a wet bag. I guess if its too big then they should accept a return - right??? It says that the L is 11-16kg and with him almost 10kg now it kind of made sense to get that one.
Oh - this will be my first fluffy mail in MONTHS!! 3 covers should keep us going on a daily rotation right? Maybe next fortnight I'll grab another couple (hopefully the special is still on!)

We use a large. It fit nice with heaps of growing room. My DS is 10.5kg.
I used the Target and Big W covers to start because I did not know of any others available at the time. I spent heaps and they leaked. Err horrible things. I would send them to you but they wouldn't fit, why I keep them I don't know.

There are "seconds" BBH covers (PUL) on ebay now for $9.00 with free postage if that helps.
