I have an 8 month old DD who has been suffering eczema for the last two months. I am using Dermaid 0.05% when it flares up as well as moisturisers, but I can't get her to stop scratching at her neck. She has eczema on her body as well as her face and neck, but she mostly scratches at her neck, even though it doesn't look as bad there as it does on her face or body.
I have tried Calamine lotion after the moisturisers to stop it itching, but this doesn't help even for a second. I keep her nails short so she rarely breaks the skin, but it is still very distressing.
Has anyone found anything to help stop the itching??

As shes so young its hard the only thing that seems to ease dds at the moment apart from creams etc is a cold washer generally i do the cold wraps but around her neck this is all i can do at the moment.
Have you had her checked out? Some things work more than others for different babies thats all and i know with my 3yo she seems to become conditioned to some creams so we have to try something else, then go back to what we were using, sort of like a revolving process but its what works for us at the moment.
Have you got any dermaveen? If you get the bath stuff, you could maybe make a mix up and just soak a washer in it and wipe around her neck to see if that helps?
My ds was exactly like this when he was a bit younger (now he scratches all over but mainly on the insides of his arms).
We used dermeze, it is produced by the rch espe for ezcema patients but is avail at chemists. Also Aveeno is great as well, we have found it works really good and generally quick. I dont know if this is relevant for you but we were told by the rch not to use calamine lotion as it tends to dry out the skin.

:)My mum has suggested this as well, and I just looked it up on the internet. The health store 2 minutes from my house sells it, so I'll take that as a sign and give it a go.
Jore - I have been using Aveeno for about a week, it seems to releive the itching somewhat. I'll try the dermeze - thanks.

My little seven month old is exactly like this, She scratches and scratches and makes herself bleed. Her ears, her head and her neck mainly and as fast as I cut her nails, they grow right back! Mittens dont work anymore either and most things I have tried to stop the itch just dry her skin more, then the creams make her itch, it is a twisted cycle!
I am about to try some herbal stuff for babies with excema, I will let you know how it goes.

My 4yo had etopic eczema and the only thing that would stop him scratching himself raw was sudocream (or other zinc nappy rash creams). To keep him moist, we got really good results from medi-honey initially then dermeeze. In his bath we use QV or alpha keri and we could only bath him every couple of days so he didn't dry out too much.
Good luck as you could have a long and expensive road ahead of you.
