My daughter is 6 weeks old are we are using disposable nappies. I am wanting to use MCN but don't know much about them eg. how they work, what brands are good, etc.
I am going to the pregnancy babies and childrens expo in a few weeks in Brisbane. And I'm hoping to visit the different outlets and buy some nappies.
Help me what do I get?

Have a look at the sticky threads in the Cloth Nappy Section. You should find one that explains the different types of nappy.
I prefer to use pockets and fitted nappies. Pockets are like a cover with a pocket at the back in which you put the absorbant material ( I use bamboo and microfleece) and fitteds are a nappy that requires a cover.
Given that your daughter is so young perhaps Bambino Mio covers would be a good place to start. I think you just fold terry flats in the middle of the cover and then put it on bub. This way you only need to wash the terry flat at every change and can reuse the cover once it's been aired for a bit.

Do the nappies come in different sizes, or is like one size fits all? If they come in different sizes how often do you need to upgrade to the next size?

The Expo will be a fabbo way to find out more!! The sticky threads above are good too!
Stands to head straight for IMO are itti bitti, baby behinds & then nurture nappies!
Itti bitti's are my FAVE! They are really trim, as trim as a disposable, so there is no issues fitting over clothes that are made for disposables. They are sized, but it doesn't take long for bubs to fit into the M, so i'd probably use baby beehinds until then, and buy M. As for when you need to size-up, DS is 10.5kg at 13months and i am just packing away the bitti d'lish mediums now, the PUL mediums are a bit smaller & I sold them a few months ago.
Baby beehinds fitteds (go for the bamboo!!)are one sized, you only need to buy different sized covers, so are very economical! They are a bit chunkier on a smaller baby, but great on an older baby or toddler. My 3yo DD & 1yo DS wear the same nappy to bed! (obviously I have several of them - lol) They also have AIO, but I haven't used them.
Nurture nappies have a mix of heaps of stuff & can help you out with basic info.
I am not a pocket fan, but have just got a rumparooz from nurture nappies - it was just too cute to pass-up!
I'd have a chat to all of them before you buy any - that way you cang et all the info!

Some come in One Size Fits All (OSFA) and some are sized. Generally they have weight ranges for the sized ones but it also depends on the fit for your bub. I bought 1 peapods pocket to begin with and it was too small for my boy because he's long in the legs and body so even though he was within the weight range for that nappy, it didn't fit - did that make sense?
I contact Peapods though and because it hadn't been used or washed they were happy to exchange it for me.
Alot of it is trial and error - same as sposies. Huggies might work for one bub but not for another, same as home brand might work for one and not the other.
I notice you're in Brisbane..
I'm not sure where abouts you are, but I'm in Bris too and if you're ever over around the Wooloongabba, Coorparoo, Mt. Gravatt area I wouldn't mind you stopping by and having a look at some of my stash.
I've got
fitteds
pockets
all in ones
all in 2's
one size fits all
and sized nappies....
so you can see the whole range.
Just PM me if you're interested. :goodvibes:
