My 10 week old daughter( 11 on thursday) gets hiccups reallyy bad and ive been advised to give her some water. She has also been sick with the flu and i was also told by the docter to give her some water between feeds. my problem is she HATES water and wont drink it no matter what i try. I was wondering if anyone thought it would be safe to give her the heinz diluted baby juice. even though it is already diluted would dilut it again. i just want to use it to make the water have a bit of a nicer taste so she will drink it. please any advice would be great im reaching my tether:hair:

Is she BF or FF? As far as Ive always know hiccups in babies is caused my not being burped properly. She would have some wind stuck in her chest that is getting mixed with milk?? So she is just clearing it out.
But no I wouldnt be giving her any form of juice. If is presists keep with the water. You could even water down some formula or EBM which would be better than juice for her age.

she is ff. i will sit there for half an hour trying to burp her and she still gets the hiccups. i constantly give her water but none goes down into her stomach cause she spts it right out. yeaturday i tried to stick the teat in the side of her mouth as she was sucking her dummy at the same time so she would suck some down and not realise, but shes not dumb she realised the first try. I just dont know what to do, when she gets them they hurt her

like the previous post I wouldn't give juice, chances are she wouldn't like that anyway. Just keep trying to get her to take some water, maybe try syringing (sp) a small amount into her mouth till she gets to like it.

If you really wanna persist with the water here is a tip from my doctor. Get a syringe used for medicine (without the needle). Suck up 1-2ml of cooled boiled water. Slide the syringe in her mouth along the inside of her cheek so it reaches the back of her mouth. Squirt slowly and gently. She may gag a bit at first but with it being squirted back there there is no way she can spit it out as it is almost in the throat already.
Good Luck
as she is ff try making the water ur giving her the same temp as her normal feed, my eldest son is almost 19mth and doesnt drink juice has had water since about 4wks for his kidneys...you could also try sweetening it just a little bit of brown or castor sugar..this is also helpful for when they are constipated and then just slowly wean out the sugar..
Good Luck, i give me 12wk old water in between feeds to make sure he doesnt dehydrate like my first and end up with bad kidneys..:)

:iagree: I would not give juice to a 10 week old.
Water with enough BM or formula to just turn it cloudy would suffice.

what flow teat is she using?
Hiccups, just like when we eat too quick, can be caused by drinking too fast. Maybe the flow is too fast for her?
Hiccups are meant to be the sign of a very healthy thriving baby I have been told

If she is still on newborn teat you should be fine.
DS at 2 1/2 is still on newborn teat.. There is no reason to change to faster flow teats IMO.. I would not be giving baby sugar water.. If you plan on doing that then juice would be preferable I'd say.
Try warm water with about 1/3 or 1/2 a scoop of formula. Just to give it the taste. She is probably more likely to accept it that way.

she is on a medium flow teat as she has a little bit of reflux so she is on thickened formula. i will try a little bit of water with formula as i dont want to try sugar and water and i didnt want to try the juice i just couldnt think of anything else. thats why i came on here to ask you lovely ladies first ('',)

:) I'm sure she will be fine.
If you can get her to drink a little bit of that and hold her in an upright sort of position (leaning forward cause that gets the gas out) I'm sure she will be fine! :D

I would try her on a slow/newborn teat. What brand of bottles do you use? I found the avent medium flow was pretty fast compared to others like tommee tippee, my dd prefured slow flow around that age.
