Today is the first day we've started using cloth nappies. I'm very excited about it!

We bought ( just to begin with ) 24 'dri glo' terry towelling nappies, which i thought were thicker than others i'd seen..?..? But as it turns out DS has already done big wees through a few of them. He does big wees anyway (he's a boobie monster!) and would often wet through a disposable.

I'm doing the origami fold, so it already has the thick bit to the front...I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions to help make them more absorbant? :)

What covers are you using?

You could use a liner or a booster - have you looked at any of these options?

:iagree: I would team a microfibre insert with my terry flats when Lincoln was wearing them... GreenKids do a really good one - nice & thick.

You could get some bamboo or hemp boosters (try greenkids or baby beehinds) to put in there to soak up more liquid without adding much bulk. These can be used in the long run too for if you decide to go with fitted nappies or pockets later so you would get your moneys worth. Bamboo is more absorbant than hemp, and softer too, but takes longer to dry.

I read another thread where someone suggested using 2 flats together, but I would imagine that would be very bulky. Worth a try though- but I am not a flat user!

Hope i helped a little!

Yeah I would go the GK microfibre booster or the Baby Beehinds Bamboo trifold - the microfibre might be more comfortable for bubs as it will keep a drier feel for longer

Don't forget.........never put the microfibre next to bubs skin......fold it in the nappy. You could also use microfibre cloths that you can buy from the auto/cleaning section of supermarket/kmart/$2 dollar shops.......folded in thirds they work pretty well. good option if yopu want something now to tide you over.
ETA - what covers are you using? A good cover goes a long way! Either PUL, Fleece or wool as opposed to pvc pilchers.

Thanks for the replies:)

At the moment, i'm using yukky pvc covers. When i get out (tomorrow hopefully) i will get some pul covers. I think i will look into the inserts. I'm so keen to get the cloth nappy thing right, and i don't want my DS to be uncomfortable in a wet nappy.

So exciting! :yelclap:

I find the Jo fold really good, especially for boys as there is a lot of nappy in the "wet zone".

I'd definitely look at getting some covers other than pilchers. I started out using them and they were awful! BBH pul covers are great, but wool is better than anything else in my experience! I haven't used the BBH wool covers, I just knit my own and they work a treat!

I just went back and re-read your OP, the Jo fold isn't that great for littlies like you little man (esp if BF!) cause it really doesn't hold the poo-plosions!

Hehe! Poo-plosions!! They sure do explode:laughing: I don't think i've ever spoken so much about poo until being a mummy :)

I found that folding boosters into my terry cloths was a great way to make them last longer.. microfibre, hemp, bamboo.

I loved Bummis covers.. you can look them up if you google Darlings Downunder. I bought mine off there.

I'll see if I can find the thread we had a while back about our terry folding adventures....

found it...
