 I was wondering if anyone can help with my dd. She is 4 months old and since she learnt to roll over onto her tummy from her back a few weeks ago, we both haven't been getting much sleep.
What happens is night times I put her to sleep onto her back and she stays there for a few hours but wakes up when she rolls onto her tummy.
I feed her and put her back in her cot but she rolls straight away and can't go to sleep on her tummy. I've tried to leave her there but she just gets all snuffly and snotty then upset. So this goes on all night with me trying to settle her.
During the day she goes to sleep on her back again (i think the reason for staying on her back initially is she is just that tired she doesn't move) but wakes after 30-40 mins on her tummy where before she'd sleep for 1 1/2-2 hours.
She was very good at self settling but now as soon as she stirs she goes onto the tummy and that's it. No more sleep.

The night time is the worse as she won't stop rolling and I have to fight her to stay on her back. I've even tried wrapping her body and legs which worked great for 2 days but she still manages to roll over and wake up again.

Also at night the only way to settle her back down now is to feed her. Even though she doesn't really want it she is too upset to rock or pat back to sleep and I know this would work as it did once before.

Help anyone please. It's driving me crazy.
I can' wait for her to roll back over by herself, hopefully that will settle things down, but then I'm sure there will be a new problem like hitting her head on the side of the cot etc.

Someone has suggested getting one of those padded sides that holds them into place with velcro, hence my idea of wrapping but I'm not too sure on that?

Thanks in advanced:D

sorry for the ramble above, but look at the time, what sane person would be up at this hour.
This is the reason why I am up

It sounds as though wrapping should help this - it is possible that there is a better way to wrap her which will keep her snug, I would ask my childhealth nurse or some other experienced mummies to show you how to wrap

There are wraps and there are wraps to be sure!

Also I would use the props to help her stay put - they are usually breathable and quite safe

Well I am really starting to freeze my butt off, better go back to bed and try to sleep AGAIN!

Good luck :)

Thanks Jessie,

I think if it doesn't get better by the end of the easter weekend i will phone someone for some help, just thought if you guys had something to get me through it i might stay a little bit sane. :p

I do wrap her tight though, but she's a wiggly worm and it loosens up.

hi you can buy a special thing (dont know what it is called) that has a round pillow on each end of a velcro blanket that u put bub on top of and prevents them from rolling. i have never used one as DD loved sleeping on her tummy, but any baby shop will know what it is.

spencer used to do this too when he first started rolling. he got over it in the end. i think they're just getting used to the new ability. wrapping helps. i know it'll be driving you crazy now but they do get used to the rolling business and will settle down.

Howdy,
It's called a safe'n'sound snuggle pillow...(i think!) we have one for our boy and it works most of the time. But sometimes he wriggles out of it and we have found him on his side or belly. They sell them at Big W for about $30. Good luck

Thanks guys

Things are starting to get a wee bit better. Yesterday she started to roll back over, mind you with a bit of effort.
Also I'm trying to get her to self settle again like she use to. Only tried it this morning so far and it worked, even though she ended up at the other end of the cot on her side/tummy.
I got 4 hours straight sleep last night so feel much better. I think she is getting use to this new ability, it's just I was going out of my mind the previous week with no sleep.
:fingerscrossed: It keeps getting better.

hi

i have a six month old and went through this myself not very long ago. it depends what stage of rolling over she's at. if she's only just started doing it, then babies galore (on-line is the best way to shop) have a really good product that velcros to the bed and acts as an anti rolling wrap. it's a bit pricey but very worth it. or you can have mine if you want it as my boy is past that stage now. if she's at the stage where she rolls over at every opportunity she gets, then trying to stop her is just going to upset her. so it's time she started sleeping on her stomach. as long as she can turn her head, it's perfectly safe. it may take about a week to adapt her to the new sleeping position, but once she does, you'll find she'll sleep quite well. and so will you.

cheers and good luck
