Hi everyone

My DS goes to bed in his Grobag - it is a 2.5 tog and he wears his pjs underneath the bag.

My query is what to put over him when he is asleep. I have been putting a sheet plus a blanket but he is waking up from midnight to 1.30am. Is he waking up because I have too many covers on him? A friend of mine only puts a sheet on her little one.

Another quick question - we have dropped his night feeds over the past month :smiliedance: but last night to get him back to sleep I gave him a bottle and he gulped it down and went straight to sleep. Should I start doing a dream feed again (around 10.30pm) or should I just persevere by trying to resettle him. Could he be going through a growth spurt? He is teething but it seems not to bother him.

Would love your thoughts.

according to the grobag info, you shouldnt need any covers over the top.
unless bub's room is really cold!

I use a grobag with DS1 and don't put anything over him, should I?? the Thermometer does not say to on the back of it, if I put him to bed and his room is at 21 degrees (which it usually is) I just dress him in a long sleeve jump suit and nappy with the 2.5 tog grow bag.

If DS wakes up at night I just give him a drink of water out of his sippy cup (I BF) he hardly ever wakes up now (touch wood!).

I wouldn't put any covers over the grobag (as Library-Laksa said as it's not recommended) but add extra layers underneath if necessary. I just have my DD in a singlet, wondersuit and 2.5 tog bag at the moment and that is plenty.

As for feeding, I would probably try giving the dreamfeed again and see if it makes any difference to the night waking.

I don't put any covers on my DS either. He's in a 2.5tog grobag.

If it's really cold he has a long sleeve body suit with legs and an extra cotton long sleeve pj top over the top. I then have his heater on really low just to take the chill out of the air. It's still cool in his room but not freezing.

As for the feed, yep I'd let him have it again. If he gulped it down he wanted it. Either dream feed or give it to him when he wakes. Try and drop it in another few weeks.

I usually put a thermal blanket and another blanket over my dd while she is in her sleeping bag, she doesnt have a 2.5 tog grobag its just a dymples brand sleepbag, it is a fleecy type material probably equivelent to 2.5.
It may seem extreme but it gets bloody cold here where I live, I checked her room temp the other night and it was 14 degrees  freezing. I normally turn the oil heater on low too to bring the room temp up to around 18 degrees. If I dont do all this, dd wakes up cold, shes cold blooded like me.

I don't put any covers on top with the grobag. Usually I have a singlet, long sleeve legless suit & wondersuit & she seems to be toasty then even on really cold nights :)

The guide as to what babies should wear is just that, a guide. Each baby is different and you have to figure out for yourself how much or little yours needs to be comfortable. We have to dress DS much warmer than recommended. He is in a down filled sleeping bag that we bought in Europe. Gave up on grobags or similar, as we just couldn't dress him warm enough at the start of the night and keep him from overheating. Meaning, if we dressed him so he'd be comfortable at the start of the night, he'd wake up prematurely because he got cold, if we dressed him a bit warmer, he'd overhat as the polyester filled sleeping bags don't breathe. ATM, with night time temperatures in his room dropping to around 17 degrees, we dress him in long sleeved body suit, wondersuit and a jumper. If it gets too cold, I also put the heater on for an hour or so during the night.
We're not using blankets, as DS moves around and would just wriggle out, but I think as long as you use breathable fabrics (cotton or wool) and tuck them in, it should be perfectly safe.
As for the night feed, sounds like your baby needs it at the moment, as he is hungry. If he's previously slept without a feed, it should only be a temporary thing and he'll probably drop it again of his own volition. I never did the dreamfeed thing, so I can't comment on that. I personally would just feed him when he wakes up.
