Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if I could get some help from all the parents out there, My DD is 2 & 1/2 and fully comprehends what a poo & wee are.

I have a frustrating problem:banghead: where toilet training has been a battle ground, she does not seem to get it, for example then she will get up from sleeping overnight and take herself to the potty then forget to go for the rest of the day, wet her knickers (cloth knickers or pull ups, makes no difference) or on the floor and if you ask her she knows that you don't wet your pants or the floor but go to the toilet/potty. No amount of bribery seems to work. Thank God that most of the accidents have been on the family room lino.

Now i have been fairly patient and tried the potty song, stickers, lollies and bribes and we still seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum. I started with pull ups thinking that would make life easier but she seemed to treat them like another nappy. So I have just put her in cloth knickers and got her to pick them out to try and spark her interest. She loves Disney Princesses so I got the reuseable stickers and put them on the toilet and potty. I got a special seat with a step to go on the toilet and delibrately leave the light on so she does not get scared on the toilet or to use it.

Whenever we get a result there is heaps of positive reinforcement:yelclap: :smiliedance: , so I am really at a loss to understand what is going on. Help is this a false start?

Im not sure Tiggerbaby. My DD did exactly the same thing! So one week I decided to stay home for the whole week and dedicate it to TT. It worked! It was like she decided "Yes; I'm ready for TT and I will do it now". DD wore knickers the whole week and we had only two accidents; she wore a nappy for sleep . The first week after that she wore pull-up's while out. Now; two months later she is going great! She wears knickers out; we havent had any accidents out yet. She has wet the bed three times when I didnt put a nappy on her for day time sleep. We are going to tackle night training soon; although she will get up of her own accord if she needs to go potty.
Well I hope this helps you. Good luck with your toilet training.:smiliedance:

I don't think it's a false start, like you said, she will get up and go to the potty, but then forgets about it. So maybe you could put her on the potty once every hour and if she goes, then great, if not, just keep trying!

Like PMS said, if you have time to stay at home for a week and not go out anywhere, just put her in undies all day(except maybe sleep time).

We got these terry towelling pants from Big W I think it was, they are thicker than undies, so if she does have an accident, it absorbes(sp?) most of it.

When I was TT DS1, I had him in his jocks, no pant and a t-shirt or singlet when we were at home, less washing to do without the pants too.

Anyway, I am sure there are other ladies on here who have better advice to help you!

Good luck hun!

TT has been by far the hardest thing in parenting that I've come across so far!

Dear Tiggerbaby, I eagerly await the same advice too! My DS is 3 3/4 and we started training yesterday. Up until then, he was avidly telling everyone that Easter Bunny was coming early to take his nappies and then he would use the toilet because he was a big boy. We are doing/have done everything you have done re: treats, sticker chart, bribery, making it fun, heaps of positiveness but he is now point blank refusing to even sit on the toilet or potty. He can pull his pants down, put the toilet insert under the toilet seat, pull his step up and sit down, but is now refusing to do anything at all. I am finding it so frustrating and am just thanking god I have hubby home for the four days to help. So please, anyone who has ANY good advice with how to deal with this, let us know!!!!

Good luck Tiggerbaby; I'm thinking of you!

Me: Mel (32)
DH: Dave (37)
DS: Jett (3 3/4)
DS: Kobe (9 months)

Hi Everyone,

Well today we have had a small sucess with three self initiated successful toilet trips. I was so elated that I almost wet myself - So all i did was stay close to home and tried to remember that with enough encouragement she would do it. Trying really hard not to expect this all the time but hopefully with time it will be an everyday occurence.

I thank everyone for their advice and positive encouragement!
