I am waiting to do the test. I went to the pathologist today after fasting all night. Waited 1/2 hour for all the old people to go through... and then she refused to test me because I hadn't done the 3 day high carb diet. My Dr and the hospital both told me I only need to fast. Did you need to eat lots of carbs for 3 days before?
(Sorry to hijack your thread!)
Jasmine- I had a high result for the one hour test- so had to go to the 2 hour one- and it came back fine- so don't worry too much.
About the diet- only one of the ladies in our due in thread had to go on a diet- rest of us just had to fast- it just depends on the centre.

I had to go back in for my 2nd GD test.
I was convinced there was nothing wrong with me as I felt fine..........
Test came back high. I did not get a call though. My ob told me at the next visit so I was well past my 28 or so weeks when I finally found out I had gg. (I was eating healthy anyway)
I controled my gd with diet alone, was not really a big problem, I sure got into that chocky after bub was born though:o

yeah i just not long found out that i have it
i am one of the people with no family history, im not over weight, i haven't gained alot of wait with the pregnancy. im 22 years old. i tick none of the boxes for the typical person with gestational diabetes, and here i am with them.
i eat healthy anyway
i now have to see my diabetic dr every 2 weeks, a dietitian every week, check my blood sugar level 4 times a day for 2 days then i can have one day of no testing. i have to write down every thing i eat.
i have to eat off a point system, to give you an idea of what i can eat for breaky
200mls of milk, one slice of toast grain bread with vegimite, any more then that and i get in trouble :crying: what if i want 2 slices of bread ? well then i can't have the 200mls of milk.
i am being very good and following the point diet very well but man it sucks
even an apple is one point so if i want an apple and toast for breaky its one apple and one slice, no milk or tea ect has to be water or something like that :(

oh the way i found out was my results went to my midwife and gp and also to my hospital clinic who then referred me asap to this diabetic dr, this all happened before i have even seen my midwife and gp to know what the results were.
so then i had an appointment with the diabetic dr who didnt tell me my results and then i seen my midwife and dr and i asked them my results
i was 8.2 on the seconds set of bloods and it needed to be under 8
I sure got into that chocky after bub was born though:o
I wouldn't do this ... I have had GD 4 times now (insulin each time) and although it went away for 7 weeks after Ruby was born, I am now back on insulin and officially an insulin dependent diabetic!
Best idea is to learn good low GI eating and pretty much stick to it (maybe not as strictly once bub is born) to prevent diabetes occuring outside pregnancy.
I am now stuck with an incredibly strict diet, 5 finger pricks daily and (at least only) one insulin shot. I may also be put on a tablet in the near future :(

Gee whiz I had GD when I was pregnant and controlled it by diet. I had a very general outline of low GI foods and was told the timing of eating certain things was important. I only had the one appt with a dietician and then took my levels 6 times a day initially then this dropped to 4 times once I showed I could manage it. It went as soon as I had bubs....
