I have been back at work for 5 weeks now, i feel so guilty as my little girl is only 4mth old but we don't really have a choice. She gets looked after by her grandparents mon-wed and then thurs & fri she comes to work with me.( i work in a daycare centre) . They have changed the roster three times at work, the last two weeks they asked me if i could finish at 6pm on a friday and both times i said no because i have my dd to get home etc and give a bath etc. So they change the roster again and give me the 6pm finish on the friday when they know that i have to take dd home. I was absolutely furious.

I went and talked to my director about this and said that i don't mind doing a 6pm finish but can it be mon, tues or wed when dd is at home. Nothing has been changed yet and my director went on holidays for two weeks so i don't know what to do, about this.

My dh said he would come and get her but it wouldn't be unitl 5.30.
I just thought that they could have been a bit more considerate since i am a first time mum and i am the only one who has their child in the centre, everyone else has older children .

has anyone else had any problems with their workplace and you having children

well I don't have any problems yet, but i am sure they will pop up once teh bub is here, have you tried are you teh only one who finishes at 6pm, is there anyway, you could swap shifts so to speak with other workers, eg, you do this day for me, I will do a mon-tues in return? I am a shift worker, and have found it much easier to jsut swap working hours with co workers, than try to push the management to change the whole thing.
Good luck.:hugs:

I totally understand what you mean...

I am having problems at work at the moment myself, my dd is 10mths old, i have her in daycare mon, tues & wed and then she goes to my parents thurs & fri...

I work from 8am till 5.30pm everyday, so i drop her at daycare that eary and pick up late so by the time we get home it is 6pm and she is cranky and ready to go to bed already.

Thurs and Fri my husband picks her up and they home by 4pm so that at least ok.

this week dd had to go to hospital with bronchilitus, my boss was so rude about it when we spoke. i thought she would understand having a child of her own but she was so awkward towards me it was horrible... and then yesterday she had to see the paediatrition and he is sending her for blood tests to check her immune system and if it is low i have to pull her out of daycare... and i have no idea what i'm going to do if it happens.

My mum has said she would look after her but it's just so much on her i believe... and after talking to my boss she just went all quiet..

It's so heart breaking when your workplace can't be understanding of these needs especially when you do so much....

Good luck

Liz
