hi my name is ann
this is my first time doing this so im not sure what to do
my son is now 13 months turning 14 months he has this thing called breath holding.
when he done it for the first time he wasent allowed something. my partner and i thought that he was dead he was stiff as a board it lasted for about 20sec so we went 2 the hospital for over night and sent us home due to he was fine.then 2 weeks later he went blue again but this time he hurt himself his back was arched and his eyes was at the back of his head , we tryed poking like the dr said he also said to give him a shake i wasent going to shake my baby, we tryed cold water that made it worse the only thing that worked was to blow in his face now when he yells and screams thats all we do. if any one needs help out there

hi my neighbours grandchild does the same thing when he doesnt get his own way and is very frightening. they were told it is an attention thing and to ignore it so to speak. let him have his hissy, walk out of the room but keep a secret eye on him and plenty of comforting when he comes around. their grandson actually passes out. but i would be getting advice from your dr as i dont like the thought of pretending to ignore him. mind you he still does it even though they pretnd to ignore

Hi Ann,

Yes I was told to gently blow on their faces too. Not too hard as this startles them too much - just gently. My son is only 7mths but when he's crying hysterically I find he doesn't take in a breathe. It scare the bejesus out of me the first few times but when I started to gently blow on his face, he would stop and breath in.

Not sure why, but I've now started to gently blow on his face when he's happy just to associate it with a game - so that there's a happy association with it. I've found that when I blew onto his face, he would get a little startle then try to breath in my breathe!! Actually kinda cute by the way.

Now when he's chucking a hissy fit, I blow on his face a couple of times and it seems to calm him down a little.

I agree that to ignoring him is not a good idea, especially since he's going blue and his eyes roll into the back of his head. Not sure if the blowing on the face would work if he's gone blue but I would think it'd work if you catch the hissy fit early enough. Good luck and let us know how you go!
