View Full Version : Waterbirth with multiples???

My good freind is having twins, so it made we wonder if you can have a waterbirth with multiples.

I have always vowed that I want to always have a waterbirth as I had such an amazing expereince with DS. So I wondered what I would do if I was having multiples.

Any info??

as long as both babies are head down, born after 37wks and neither of them and in distress, there is not reason not to have a water birth :yes:

At the birth centre where I had my waterbirths they wouldn't let you if you had twins.

Considering the amount of places waterbirth is actually available, I would think it might be tricky and homebirth might be the easiest option:)

I imagine you can, but alot of time twins one at least is breech so usually in a vaginal hospital birth they advise an epidural so they can manually turn them if needed. Im not sure if at a hospital or birth centre they would allow it though, as Ffrenchstar said homebirth would be the best option.

Having had twins, the logistics of everything being "perfect" for a VB let alone a waterbirth is slim. Most twins come early and they do recommend an epidural. These two factors alone won't allow you to have a waterbirth.

Home probably.

Availability of waterbirths in the health system is pretty limited and usually confined to birth centres. Which only take low risk mothers. And ridiculously, multiples are not considered low risk even when every thing is normal.

Sucks eh :(

speak to an independent midwife it may only be possible at home but it is possible

At the birth centre I had my waterbirth at the wouldn't let you have a waterbirth if you were having multiples. I think in general twins are considered a 'high risk' as there is a lot more room for complications... but don't quote me on that!!!
