View Full Version : How long's too long for a headache
Hi guys
Yesterday I got a headache, nothing unusual there. Didn't take any painkillers as OB said it's best not to. Went to bed with it and didn't sleep too well. Woke up this morning, still there. This afternoon finally took some paracetamol as couldn't stand it any longer. It eased the head pain for about 4 hours but my neck still felt tender. When the medication wore off, headache came back.
Going to phone docs tomorrow if it's still there I think? Should I phone doc, OB or midwife?

I'd phone your OB. My sis had Toxemia and was told if she had a headache for longer than 24hrs then to contact them, as it could be a sign that her BP was rising too high. A headache can be a simple thing or a more complex one, so IMO it can't hurt to let your OB know what is going on, you might just need a quick BP & urine test to rule out some things.

A headache is not a condition in itself - it's a sympton of an underlying condition and can indicate anything from being dehydrated, low blood sugar or being too tired or a myriad of other conditions
If you have high blood pressure or any other condition that you know of, I'd ring the Dr.
If it's just because you're generally run down and tired, I'd have several large glasses or water, a sandwich to bring up your blood sugar and a long lie down. I find a strong cup of coffee also works for me if it's early morning, or strong black tea if it's pm.
If you've slept funny and hurt your kneck, maybe a heat pack and again - a lie down.
If the headache persists or gets worse, then maybe pop along to the DR's or ring the hospital or nurse-on-call.
I can have a migraine for several days, and the afterheadach can persist for a couple of weeks off and on, but I'm not currently pregnant
Good luck , and the Dr's/Middy's or hospy will not think worse of you if you decided to ring them or see them
