Car seat anchor... Ive just bought a new car and I'm trying to save on space as much as I can, but sadly I've found that after puttin in a larger carseat the anchor strap is gettin in the way...
:confused:Is it possible to get a mechanic to put a anchor point on the roof of my car?:confused:
TIA

ah yeah I know what you mean! There are lots of ladies on here with this problem so hopefully they can come help you out. My only suggestion would be a smaller pram, what kind do you have now? Umbrella strollers are good cos they fold quite thin

I wouldn't think that the roof would be very strong because it has no strength to it really.
As far as I know the anchor point bolts into the chassis to give maximum strength.
i think you need to go with what onemummy said and get a smaller pram. either that or get a different car...

lol um can you put it in the front seat? can you move the baby seat to one side instead of the middle? what about standing the pram on the side will it fit that way?

I was just a bit nervous about puttin the babyseat to one side of the car... Is there a big difference in safety if the carseat is to the side?

well they say its safer in the middle if you can have it there..i think the pram may fit on its side if you take out that thingy, the parcel shelf thing, know what im talking about?

I have taken it out but having issues puttin the pram in there when the safety harness thing is right in the middle....
I would call a baby carseat fitting station if i were you, they may be able to do the roof thing for you? i'm not sure but i know some 4x4's have the anchor point on the roof in the back.
I have a steelcraft orbit too and seeing as you have a hatchback i can understand why it would be hard to get in as they take up a fair bit of room.
As has been said what about moving your seat to behind the passengers seat so you can put the pram on the backseat? My DD's seat is behind the passengers seat and it was installed by a fitting staion guy, he said yes the middle is the safest but that is followed closely by the back passenger side seat and told me it would probs be easier for me to get DD in if it was there so i agreed.
Sorry that went on for a bit but hope it helped

hmm I have no idea apart from a smaller pram or putting it on the seat or moving the babyseat(though it may not make much difference) you could possibly get the anchor moved closer to the seat?

Thanks RnR... I have three anchor points the middle one is in use right now with the babyseat there. If i put the babyseat behind the passenger seat I can use the anchor point directly behind it. I could then put the pram in the boot no worries... But scared about the safety issue... Where would i find a fitting station?

Im pretty sure in sedans/hatches the roof is quite 'flimsy' compared to a 4WD:confused:

I wouldnt know lol, im not very educated in the mechanicy department

honestly I would be asking the manufacturer of your car as well as someone like kidsafe before putting an anchor on the roof..some mechanics etc may just do it anyway without considering safety.
the carseat position is really much of a muchness, once you have more than one child they have to go on the sides anyway.

ummm ring your local ambos? They install seats up here(QLD) so they may have a list of people near you who are authorised fitting stations

I think ambulance stations are qualified fitters and also some tyre places like Tyres and More do it too. Maybe ring the local police station if the ambos can't help - they may be able to at least tell you a local place to get it done.

there are plenty of fitting stations that will fit your car seat into an existing anchor point. ambulance, kidsafe...
finding a place that will drill a new anchor point... not much of a chance at all. they used to do it, I had it done in our nissan navara 4X4 in 1996 and they modified the compliance plate to show that it had been done. I tried to find someone to do it earlier this year and it was pretty much - no, are you kidding, no one does that anymore, not going to happen. so I gave up.
turns out that DHs car did have anchor points, just that someone has put the screw in and then cut them off  . so now we have to find a way to get them out :hissy:

Thanks onemummy!! Lol this car/baby thing can be difficult sometimes
hope you've found somewhere by now but my suggestions would be
1. local maternity hospital - thats where i got mine done
2. some baby shops have fitting stations
3. google it - as there are some mobile ones in certain areas/states
4. apparently the ambo's might be worth a call
and lastly good luck!
