Ok, so we have picked the colours of our wedding, and I have been looking into venues for the reception, in which the colours will be carried through. I would like to have them at the same venue....
All the places have beverage packages, and cost soooo much money...I am like OMG how are we going to afford that....
Anyway to my question...
Did you serve Alcohol at your wedding?
Where was it held, ie function venue, pub, gardens, etc???
Most are obviously cheaper for a non-alcohol package.....am considering doing that.....but dunno...

Forgot to add we only have a guest list of around 32 at the moment, and are planning on keeping it small.... most places have a 60 pax minimum.... Did you have a small reception and have a problem finding 'the' place to accomodate that????

We had 22 people, cooked pork and lamb on the webber, got salads from the chicken shop with a few chickens on a platter. All we supplied was beer and champers and i also made some home made baileys for the ladies :) and soft drinks (grog was $120 all up) i made trifle and pav and our cake was a profiterole cake which i made with the help of mum. Held it in her backyard!
Was a great day though.
one thing you can consider which we looked into , but we had it christmas day so no one would do it is one of those spit companies, they come and cook etc, supply alcohol drinks salads and dessert and charge anywhere from $8 to $15 per head. Works out quiet reasonable if its a small event.
Good luck :)

We had our wedding and reception at a restaurant. We had about 80 people so we had the whole restaurant for the night but for smaller weddings they would just section off the restaurant allowing them to still have other diners. Maybe somewhere that does that is an option?
Also, we had a beverage package as that's what was offered (and suited us) but friends of ours who had their wedding at the same place asked for and got a bar tab instead as they didn't think their guests would drink enough to warrant the package. Have you approached any of the places that do packages to see if they would let you have a bar tab instead?
What I found when looking for a venue is that some places are really rigid in what they offer but if you look hard enough, you will find places that are willing to adapt to what you want - and places like that will always end up better on the night, in my opinion.
Good luck with planning your wedding.
We had spit roast catering for our wedding and everyone LOVED the food. It was only about $12 per person.
We found a function room that allowed us to supply our own alcohol, so we supplied the beer, wine(we bottled our own at a winery), hired a 3 barrel slushy machine(2 alcoholic and 1 alcohol free for the kids), and we bought soft drink, juice and bottled water....I think it came to under $2000 and that was for 80 people.

We have an acre here, and were considering using it, hiring a marquee, and hiring all the linen....and also a catering company...
Love the idea of a slushie machine Starlet, we actually discussed that today....as a YES...
But then we have to hire chairs and tables and get everyone to there from the reception, and although we have an acre, the cars wouldnt all fit in the space we have for cars.... Seems like so much hassle...
Yet I dont want to have to pay a fortune for room hire etc...but then most offer packages that include the linen etc...
Oh man....
Some places I've looked at on the net do offer a consumption package....but also have a 15% surcharge if under the minimum people....
So much to decide on...
I was going to keep it cheap and do it myself, but I want this to be the 1 occassion where I'M NOT the one doing the cooking and running around etc....

ring up and get a quote  BUT tell them its for a 16th birthday party ;)......the word wedding adds quite a few dollars at most places.
the money you might save might be worth the hassle
I think the idea of having it on the acre is lovely...you could have it exactly how you want!! We did alot of stuff ourselves though as the place was pretty much the room, bar, tables and chairs. Maybe you could rope someone in to setting it up for you?
I tell you, those slushies were such a hit!! As most of our mates are in their twenties, they went nutso over it!! I think the 3 barrels cost us about $245 (including delivery, set up and pick up), you just have to pay for the alcohol on top of that!
It does all add up for sure!!!
Have you got any friends with a nice big house or property?
I got married overseas but we had our wedding ceremony and reception in the one venue and sometimes you can get a good deal doing it all in one... we just served beer and wine and softdrink and champers for the toast and to save money there was no drinks served during speeches and after dessert it was pay as you go most places if you know your budget you can plan drinks around that...that is what we did...
Im not sure where you are but what about a community hall (obviously a nice one!!) or something similar? What about hiring out like a bed and breakfast and guests can all stay and have everything in one maybe?
I really wanted to have my wedding at a winery not sure if thats an option but you would get a good deal on alcohol??? hopefully!!
HTH...good luck! How exciting...

Not sure about halls in the area, we actually looked into a winery that is close by.....

Thats a good price for the hire of those machines......makes me want one even more....
I am just so confused....
I even just considered having it at a restaurant....with buy your own drinks...we pay for the meals... and set it up with linen and stuff... prior to the wedding maybe....
None of us would have to change, as the wedding gear I want is versatile...so could go straight there...but then there is transportation etc.....
OH MY......maybe I should stop thinking for a while...lol

Hi ya, before I saw your second post I was going to suggest using your lovely property. You will be able to make it look so awesome with a marque and even having the ceremony at the property as well.
We got married at a church then had our reception back at our first home and it was just so much more personal and memorable plus saved us heaps of money.
Have you set a date yet??? Ooh how exciting.

Hey stranger...... No havent set a date yet, but your invite will be in the mail, as you and your hubby are already on the guest list ;)...

Ohh how exciting can't wait, I am assuming it is Jan as per your other post 8mths??
I have my brother in laws wedding in Feb in NZ as well.
LOL I had hot pink when I got married and the boys wore tails. Married in the 90s hence the tails and cumperbun.
If you need any help let me know.
Without knowing where you are it's hard...
We're looking into everything now and it's not cheap, I can't find anywhere for under $5k... But I can't get my list any smaller than 65 and I've been trying!!!
Have you looked at a weekday instead?? From my calculations, we can save almost $1k by getting married on a Friday instead. If we go cocktail reception we'll save almost $2k for the Saturday.
But I'm only looking at one venue for those prices, we have an appt with them today...
A friend of mine had her ceremony on the front lawn of her PIL's in Bundy, then had the reception in a marquee out the back... I don't think her PIL's were too impressed with where everyone parked, especially us as we ended up setting up a tent further down their property (we had permission of course but had to drive over their back yard to get to the tent). They set up a parking area and it got full really quick but all in all, none of their property was damaged at all... It was a beautiful wedding too. Only one I've ever cried at (that could have been because it was my friend not DF's relo)...

 Hiya, we just got married in March and held our reception in the function room of an RSL with about 110 guests.
It cost us $300 to hire the place and they set up, supplied all the linen (you just choose the colour theme) supplied centrepieces and everything and then cleaned up after us all. It was great.
And with the alcohol, we just put up a bar tab which we paid in advance, it ended up being about $2000 for 110 people drinking for 6 hours. So I thought that was pretty good!

Never thought of an RSL...there's not many around here, but I looked at some and they are considerably cheaper than where I was looking... Thanks

Hey
Just an Idea for you - http://www.boulevardgardens.com.au/index.htm my mum and dad were married there way back when - but when i'm in Brisbane occassionally I always see functions being held here it looks beautiful.
I did have a look at their packages - not too bad, it does say minimum # for negotiation by management.... just another option/ comparison for you.
Good Luck with it all - oh btw love the hot pink / black theme :goodvibes:

Oh wow, that looks absolutely stunning....thanks for the link.....
It does look stunning, but you have to pay for 50 minimum...
Works out quite expensive, depending of course on how much you're looking to spend...
Works out at roughly $4,500 if you have your ceremony there as well, based on 50 people at the smallest $$ per head. There will most likely be hidden costs with it as well...
I found out when we checked out the place we're going to that there's an extra $600 for the chef/waiters/barman...
Then you have the dress, suits, hair, make-up, cake, decos, etc... Oh, and if you want a DJ for that place, you have to hire one of their recommendations...

We have thought about getting married at home, and I found a company that did everything. I thought they were quite reasonable for what I needed them to provide..
Our big problem was parking. We live in a suburban cul de sac.. not ideal for lots of visitors in one hit. We thought about a bus for some people maybe..
Where are you? would you hire out your land to us next year?:laughing:
