I wish I was one of those people who could stay calm in a crisis.

Asher has been sick for the last few days but when he woke up from his afternoon nap I picked him up and he was burning hot temp was 39.5 he threw up and was shaking.

Jesse is the one who is good with this sort of thing.

So naturally I freaked out because thats what I do.
I rang my doctors and I'm sure the receptionist thought I was a crazy mama!
She actually told me to hold and take a deep breath.

She was lovely when we got to the surgery but I think she thought I was insane!

All I kept thinking was Jesse's not here, we have no friends in Perth and Asher is going to die and I can't hold it together enough to get him help.

So all you cool cucumbers how do you stay calm in a crisis?

Ummm. You do have friends in Perth :D

I ring health Direct if I am really worried and I try not to let the panic stop me from what needs to be done. I collapse afterwards.

actually when the kids are sick i just remember 1 thing, if i don't stay calm and help him then i'll be scrubbing puke out of the carpet. also the local hospital must think i have munchausens by now cause the slightest thing happens and there we are. so i am just as hopeless as you, only diff is my mum is a nurse so i can call her first, she may live an hour away but she calms me down and works out what to do next for me lol.

Awwww thanks mate

Ok yes we do have friends in Perth, I just always going into worst case scenario mode in a crisis.

Most likely because I'm such a stress head.

I need to learn to relax a lot more.

See I need that someone I can call who can say
Kara! "breath and do this...."

I also tend to go a bit loopy when the kids aren't the best. Tho John is worse...lol

So it's almost better that the 'health' and 'injury' issues seem to happen when he's away lol. Nothing worse than two crazy parents.

Becuase of this, and having our two kidlets, I always like to have my little nappy bag stocked. But then that doesn't help unless you know where your car keys are....

Sorry. Shouldn't have really responded because i'm not a cool cucumber with my own children. definitely not...

I hope little Asher is ok :hugs:

Kara - the one thing about the lovely ladies of perth is you can call on us any time you want. If you need us, we will be there. All you have to do is be willing to ask. :hugs: Would you like us to come over?

my babies seem to wait till Daddy goes to get sick...we have had several flash fevers of 39.5 and i guess I just coped as I have no other choice...not to say DH hasnt had a couple of frantic calls...
I always wonder what they would make me do if one of mine was that sick they get admitted...cos I couldnt leave the other one behind...

I've thought about that too, Not that we have two kids or more.
Surely they would work something out for you.

Aww :hugs: I understand our kids seem to pick DH going away to get sick! I think a lot of doctors I've seen think I'm a neurotic mother, one even asked if DS was a premi bub or something when I went back after 4 days when I felt his ear infection wasn't improving. (if an 100cm tall 18kg 2yo is a premi I'll buy a hat and eat it )

I've been through so many different things over the last 4 years I'm not phased as much as I used to be, on the outside, I guess I now kind of go through the motions. When my kids have high temps I give them something and keep monitoring their temps and write them down so I can keep track if it's not gone down after a certain time frame I will do something about it.

DD1 gets croup most times she gets a cold, I now know to either take her outside into the cold night air so I do that and if she's ok after that she'll settle back down and go to sleep, (and so far that's worked) if it doesn't work and she's having issues breathing I know I will need to take her to the hospital.

I have things worked out in my head (I guess a bit of a drill if you will) if I notice one of the kids going downhill of what I can do if need be. So I guess that's what help keeps me cool and calm and kind of on an autopilot. I go through the motions of what I've already preplanned.

But then I had an unexpected homebirth with #3 and I'm told I was pretty calm about that although that's due to me having thought out what may happen especially with DH working away so I just went with it. lol.

I hope Asher is on the mend now, next time take a deep breathe, count to 5 or 10 if need be and know things you can do in different circumstances. Just be prepared and you might kind of switch onto autopilot as I do.

ok i am now just as crazy as you lol. dd was sick as last night and vomiting so hard that her eyes rolled into the back of her head and her whole body went stiff. i was at the hospital is 30 seconds flat, didn't even think to grab a spare change of clothes or a blanket for her. luckily i keep blankets in the car.

Hey there we haven't had a meet anytime recently but we should

Would be lovely to meet you all, I know there is a regular meet SOR but it's way southward.

So maybe we could do one that is more central or NOR.
