View Full Version : Breatfeeding and TTC
Just a Q for those that have b-fed and ttc at the same time. My DS is almost 10 months and we would like to ttc again soon, as it took us a year to conceive last time and we do not want a big age gap. I am still b-feeding and my AF has never returned. Any advice how many feeds I would have to cut out before I can start to O again. I really have no idea, so any advice would be great. :D

Hi Livy,
I dont know the answer to your question, but my DD self weaned when she was 9 months old in December and in January I felt O pains and the doc said I was probably ovulating. My AF had returned 5 mths previous but I probably wasnt o'ing.....
Needless to say now in almost June and still TTC after AF returned 11mths ago.....
Goodluck!

ive read that you need to eliminate the night feeds to be able to ovulate.
and also to be giving your child solid foods as well (so, not just breastmilk and breastmilk only)
i think my ds was 15 mths when he stopped night feeds, but every baby is different of course!!
hth and good luck! :)
Hi, I'm in the same boat except my DS is 16 months and still no sign of AF. He has only recently dropped down to an avaerage of only two feeds a day though so :fingerscrossed: that's enough for my fertility to return. We are all so amazingly (and frustratingly) different though and some women won't get AF back or ovulate until they stop breastfeeding completely. I suspect this is me but don't want to force DS to wean so have decided to go with the flow and accept that having a larger gap between our next child is not the end of the world.
Best of luck to you and hope your AF returns sooner than mine.

its so different for everybody. i managed to be tandem feeding and stil o... i feed through the night ds2 and both during the day, so i dont believe their is a magical number of feeds per day.
good luck with ttc:wave: (sorry wasnt much help)
As soon as I started DD on solids, AF returned. She was 7 months old and she's now almost 13 months and we're still ttc. I also heard the same thing about dropping the night feeds but she still had them and I still got AF, so everyone is different.
Thanks ladies - I had also heard that dropping night feeds was pretty much the only thing that may work. Problem is DS wont take a bottle and screams until I feed him. I guess I will give it a few more months and see how it all goes.
Good luck to those of you who are ttc again ... sending stacks of baby dust :babydust2:
