Hey there,

I'm still a bit confused my formula feeding and need some advise if you don't mind.

After being full time formula feed for about 2 weeks now over the past few days Georgie has started to scream with pain. I think it's when she is trying to poo. Until yesterday she had pooed everyday and the consistency was like toothpaste - which I'm told it how it should be. Then no poo yesterday. For 10 - 15 minutes she will just scream the place down (really loudly) and then settles a bit.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I change formula (currently using Heinze)? I asked the GP at our 6 week check and she said it's normal with formula feeding (???) - surely not. She conveniently did a poo at the Drs - and it was fine.

Thanks guys - any advise is appreciated

unfortunately i think that is true...i have heard that Formula can cause constipation:( but i think its also an individual thing..when i swapped my son to formula at 9months he didnt get constipation:confused: i was using s26 gold...i hope Georgie gets some relief soon...and dont be hard on yourself the main thing is she is growing and is healthy:hugs:

is she arching back? thats what seth did. he had reflux. maybe take a few notes at what she is doing and then tell the doc.

My little guy has been ff since birth & he did get a bit constipated around week 2 - 3... I gave him some water with a teaspoon of brown sugar & that got him moving again the next morning... Unfortunately it does happen on formula more readily than on the breast, but it can be easily corrected - I suppose just keep you GP informed if it's happening too much... I know Lachie gets all scrunched up sometimes in what seems to be a tummy kind of pain - although I think that's often just a burp that hasn't surfaced too..? I'm using Heinz as well & have found it generally pretty good so far..

Hope Georgie gets better for you soon... might just take some adjusting to the new food... :)

Hi There

You could try a teaspoon of brown sugar in 20ml of warm water in between feeds. Also add an extra 20ml of water to your bottles when making them up. Example if your baby is currently on 100ml and you use two scoops add 120ml of water and still two scoops.

My little boy was having this problem also but have fixed it with the extra water in the formula.

Hope this helps

It says on the tin do not dilute formula....... its like soup with extra water yuk!

We are using Nan HA as requested by the hospital as i couldnt feed him.... with DD her paed said S26 reflux or Nan HA due to the sugar break down..

With DS ive started using infants friend which is a natural product.. it worked for DD as they both get a lot of wind.. its harder for them to get rid of wind with formula... If that doesnt work a bath is always good...

Infants friend is for any age .. gripe water and infacol are from 1 month they may work too...

If not just a seperate bottle of water

DS is also formula fed from birth (Heinz Nurture Gold) and did suffer from constipation for a while. The paediatrician said to give him 30mls of cooled boiled water twice a day. This worked well for us. Once he softened up and became regular I cut it back to once a day and have now cut it out all together. On advice from other girls from my mothers group I also bought Baurer Infant Colic drops and this had helped with his wind pains. DS now does one pig wet poo a day and does lots of farts mainly while he is feeding. Hope this helps

my dd is 8mths and also has heinze formula and suffers from constipation. I offer water in between feeds and then offer prune juice diluted of course every 2nd day or so (only about 30mls) and it does the trick. I also add an extra 10 mls or so to the bottle of water when preparing the formula. Hope this helps.

I've also heard babies scream for no reason.

 That's very true!!

With my DS i had to try a different formula to see which one suited bubby the best, i started off with s26 gold Plus, which he became demanding with feeds .. i found a tin would last not even a week or so. He also regurgitated a fair bit, had 'colic' symptoms (like screaming constantly and tensing) and became quite constipated so i found after all that it was too expensive to persist with.. At the moment he's doing really well with the Karicare AR - he's consistant with his poop (has one around the same time every night at 3am... yey!) and he doesn't regurgitate or have 'colic' symptoms anymore.. He also sleeps alot better (4-6 hourly sleeps) I find because its a thickened formula, it works better for his tummy.. when he gets a little older i may try the S26 Gold again, but for now he seems quite happy..
Its okay to try something different, just expect her bowel movements to be a little irregular for the first few days of trying it.. You have to find the 'one' that suits her..
Good luck i hope it works out for you!
