Hi
I'm Carolyn and I live in Adelaide
Babies
DS1 23 months, 22 months corrected
DD1 4 months , 2 & 1/2 months corrected
DD2 4 months , 2 & 1/2 months corrected
Gestational age at birth
DS1 36weeks 2025gms
DD1 34weeks 1330gms
DD2 34weeks 2330gms
Time spent in NICU/SCU
DS1 12days in SCN
DD1 6weeks in SCN
DD2 6weeks in SCN
Ongoing issues
DS1 Still going through a lot of tests but so far we know he has sensory issues and global developmental delay.
DD1 & DD2 too early to tell yet but they are hitting their milestones so far.
Reason for prematurity
DD1 Was picked up at 35 weeks that he was small and they think he stopped growing at 32 weeks so we don't know what sort of nutrients he missed out on in that time. IUGR was the main issue
DD1 & DD2 Being twins I was always told they were going to be born early. Olivia had IUGR and they were having trouble picking her up easily in scans and ctg's and Lauren would have been a good size had she gone full term.
Nice to meet you all
Carolyn

Gorgeous,funny little girl.
Reasons for prematurity: I had PIH, then pre-eclampsia,that was venturing into Eclampsia,Bubs had IUGR,low blood and oxygen supply from the placenta, and foetal distress.I also had no amniotic fluid left,I had felt myself losing fluid the day before I had her and told a nurse who told me not to worry about it as i would be having her soon and it was probably just my bladder:eek:,she never checked or anything.found out the next day my waters were non-existent!
Nice to meet you all!
I hope you are right, that would be awesome.
well if this gives you any hope, my DS1 was majourly premmie due to PROM, but with DS2 I made it to 39wks before going into labour and my waters never broke (which is the reason my babies come early ) so :fingerscrossed: its the same for you  and you have a just about full termer

 I haven't been here in a while
Child: Taea Grace and Bailey Stephen 25.09.2005
Gestational Age at Birth: 31w5d Taea was 1860gms and 39cms long and Bailey was 1385gms and 40cms long.
Complications at birth: Both had hypoglycaemia and jaundice. Taea was on CPAP for a total of 8 days whilst Bailey needed no breathing assistance
Time spent in NICU/SCN: 10 days in NICU and 17 days in SCU.
Ongoing Issues: Bailey is still reasonably small for his age still not quite 12kgs and has been assessed as having a mild delay with his speech and language comprehension. He has just started speech therapy and is already showing massive improvements. Taea is affectionately referred to by the NICU Drs as the "Pretend Prem"
Reasons for prematurity: Bailey (Twin 2) had a reverse blood flow to his cord with resultant IUGR. They were delivered early when his blood supply reached a critical level after being diagnosed at 28 weeks so we were very pleased to get as far as we did.

 Girls,
thought I'd add my gremlins to the prem play group too.:) Even though neither of them were as early as alot of you ladies.
Bub:
DS 03.06.06 2 in a few days
DD 20.01.06 4 months
Gestational age at birth:
DS 36wks 3110gm (6lb 13oz) 52cm 34hc
DD 35wks 2310gm (5lb 2oz) 49cm 32hc
Time in NICU/SCU:
DS Was sent into rooms with me for the 1st 3 days...THEN SCU 2.5wks (if they'd treat him accordingly I think he would have down alot better) Was severely jaundiced & failure to suck etc.
DD Was another "pretend prem" No Oxygen, straight into crib. Mild Jaudice (24hr under lights) but only in for 1 wk
Ongoing issues:
No ongoing issues with either.
Reason for prematurity:
DS No idea, don't feel contractions. On exam was 4-5cm dialated & too far gone to stop labour
DD Same again!

Hi everyone thanks for joining in,
I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we can offer support ask questions etc
How did you all cope with the NICU/ SCN time, I found NICU too be very traumatic but SCN less so, the hardest moment for me was definatly goign home without him for the first time.
I found in NICU it was hard because you are so restricted in your contact with them, all you want to do is hold your bub and you cant. The nurses were very strict in NICU also.
SCN was more relaxed and more cuddles allowed, which was nice but less private, lots of visistors walking past staring GRRR
I found it quite hard when DD was in the SCN, I couldn't hold her at all untill she was 3 days old, I know its not as long as what others had to wait, but it was still awfull, and even then after that I could only get her out of the humidicrib every now and then for kangaroo cuddles and no more,
and yes it was very sad to leave her at the hospital when I had to go home, but yet it was a relief to go home, cause it truly sucks when everyone else has their baby with them in their room all playing happy families, and mine baby was straped to machines

Yeh I really hated being on the ward with all the new mums when i was still in the hospital. It made me really depressed.especially because everyone was afraid to talk to me because they knew my baby was in NICU.

With DS1 they put me in a room with another mum who's Bubs was up in NICU so we would speak to each other.
But with DS2 they didnt and put me in with another lady with her 4th child, a Vb (i had a C/S) she was in there before me and i went home before her (they asked me as they where so busy and full) and i had Bubs up NICU/SCN and lived over an hr away im glad DS2 was well enough to get transferred closer to home on day 5 but i went on 2 days after a C/Section:eek:
OMG why did they make you leave so early? thats so wrong, the other lady should've gone home well before you, I had a VB and they still let me stay untill 5 days after the birth, I left after 4 though, couldn't handle the other mums there, with their healthy babys by their beds, and all the visitors they were getting, while I was all by myself with no one to visit :crying:

That is so cruel, I was put in a room by myself. I dont think I could have handled it if I wasnt, as it was I was up crying half the night. Let alone seeing all the happy people with their healthy bubs.
They let me stay for a long time too but I left early as I was going stir crazy.
Thats awfull, mind you they put me back in an antenatal rather than post natal room with other women because I didnt have a baby with me so I didnt need privacy apparently.

yip by day 3 I was so teary it wasn't funny, it was really horrible being in a room full of people and still feeling so alone, DH barely came to either, as he had to work (the joys of owning a business), I probably would've felt alot better if he was at least with me in the evenings
Naiwen, a antinatal room would've been heaps better than being in a postnatal room, you were lucky
You are right I was but I still wasn't very happy!
Did anyone else have their bubs baptised in NICU?

Hi everyone
Though I might add my munckin.
Bub~ Bethany Valentine 06/01/08 5 months today
Gestational Age At Birth~ 34 Weeks 5 days 4 pounds 5 ounces
Time Spent in NICU/SCN~ She was a pretent prem, the only problem slight jundice and low weight. She was in there for 2 weeks.
Ongoing Issues~ The only issue is she is still a small baby, she is under weight for her height not a big issue. Drinks fine, just started soilds and reminders me she needs them too after her milk feed.
Reason For Prematurity~ Developed pre eclampisa and was placed in hospitail for monitoring as my bp was 180/100, plus the rest, i couldn't walk due to the swelling. I went into labour naturally, was book for an induction but start getting contractions before I was induced. I was happy about that.

Hi Guys!
I totally relate to the "baby not in rooms" feeling.
With DS there was a total LACK of information. As they treat him like a term baby for the 1st 3 days. At 3 day check Paed literally came in & tubed him on the spot. Imagine, your 1st baby, thinking he is perfectly fine & that happens with out warning. It was like 6.30am so I was alone & then they just took him. 3 day blues & lack of knowledge really went crazt let me tell you. I was so sick of every midwife telling me different information by day 5 I was outta there, feeling ever more guilty for leacing my boy there. Took a Locum Paed on the weekend to give me real, acurate information & Diag for me to feel calm. 24hrs under lights & he was mine to escape with....NOT a good experience  OH..AND the Hosp SCN/Maternity ward was being renovated at the time so it was taking me like 10 minutes to navigate through the wards to get to the other end of the hospital to see him. Private Hospital too...you'd think they would be a little bit better...
DD, I felt really alone as DH was working so much & they took her to SCN from birth. I was back & forth for feeds, & like the rest of you as a result had next to no visitors. SCN Nurses were better that time round but I think It was due to me being to so stressed & they left me to my out devises as I was a 2nd timer as far as cuddles, feeds (BF & tube) & baths...much better. I guess that just comes down to experience & me "growing a set" & speaking my mind when needed. time wise i went home on the thursday & went back on Monday morning to get her so not too bad..still feel horrid but better.
yay for Pretermers hey!:o

Hey everyone
My lil girl was born at 25weeks+6days (26weeks i guess, lol). She weighed 2pound 2ounces which is about 1kg. she was quite big for a 26weeker
Umm she was in NICU for 8.5weeks, then was transfered to a closer hospital where she stayed for another 4 weeks
She is now 10months, 7months CA
Not sure what caused her to come so early, it runs in our family (my bro was born at 24weeks n i was born quite early to) so they've ruled it as genetic.
So yeah, thats our story :)
Hi:wave:
My DS was born at 33weeks weighing 5lbs, 5oz.
I was induced as I have Rhesus Incompatability & he needed to be out. Within hours of being born he needed an exchange transfusion (cause of the rhesus prob) & ended up spending about 15days under the lights as the jaundice is very severe with my rhesus problem.
He spent 6 days in NICU, then 13 days in SCN before coming home on day 19.
He is 1 month old today & still having jaundice probs. Needs regular blood tests to check his SBR as it's still high (thankfully not quite high enough to have to go back in) & also his haemaglobin (sp?) is very low so have to keep checking that. If it gets much lower at the next blood test, he'll have to go in & get a blood top up.
He also either has a heart murmer (sp?) or a small hole in his heart, which his paed is not worried about. Said it will hopefully just fix itself.
At the moment he still only eats & sleeps, so not sure whether he's been affected in any other way.
Hi everyone just thought I would add my bub :)
Child: Claire
Gestational Age at Birth: Just on 32 weeks
Complications at birth: Small birth weight (1.765kg: I think that is ok size for 32wks) couldn't control her temp, jaundice twice, (all normal things for a 32 weeker)
Time spent in NICU/SCN: 3.5 weeks in SCN
Ongoing Issues: Nil that I am aware of :), she is meeting all milestones etc.....but she is only 14 weeks.
Reasons for prematurity: Nobody knows why, I just started having contractions, given meds to prevent labour but to no avail
Just got a quick question guys
was anyones premmie slow with their solids, I mean did it take them awhile to loose that tongue reflex?
DD is 8.5mths (just over 7mths corrected) and she still has the tongue thing going on, and it doesn't look like its going to go anytime soon, at this rate she still won't be on solids at a year old lol, so was/is anyone elses bub slow with this milestone?

DS2 only really got it about a month ago also even now he have struggles during the day but he will happily eat about 120gms of tea but lunch is about 60-120 if im lucky and breakie if i give it to him its a few mouthfuls and thats IT.
the MCH nurse thinks im not giving him enough

Hi just thought Id join this thread, my DD was born at just over 32 weeks, after numerous problems with threatened preterm labour due to me having a unicornuate uterus (similar to a bicornuate uterus but more trouble!) She had one night tubed in NICU, then 4weeks in SCN. She was pretty good, no major dramas, although I was pretty stressed at the time. I know where everyone is coming from with the awful feeling of leaving the hospital without your bub and being in a room with women with bubs, it was a very stressful experience. Im a nurse, although never worked in SCN, I realised a little knowledge is dangerous! Ruby is nearly 5 months corrected now, her reflux seems to be improving but Ive had feeding problems pretty much from the start which ended up with me switching to formula after 6weeks or so. She improved no end but has always gone through periods of refusing her bottle occasionally and sometimes only drinking small amounts, im sure we'll have similar issues when it comes to solids! It use to really stress me out at first but ive had her checked numerous times and to be honest she is a thriving happy baby so I just go with the flow now. Took me a while to develop this attitude though! Cheers, Looking forward to chatting more :)
Hi Kerrysinead and welcome too the thread!
Gizzy I am still having drama's with Edward and his solids, he is one but will only eat purees and not much of those. The reason for this is he had an oral aversion form being tubed.
This apparently is quite common in premmies but it's a total PIA
Hi Kerrysinead  welcome
naiwen how long has Edward been eating solids for? at just about 9mths i'm lucky to even get one spoon full into Alexis, and even getting that in is a mission, cause everytime I have to get her to laugh or somthing to get her to open her mouth, and if I manage to get anything in, she pushes it back out with her lizard tounge, drives me insane
i'm taking her to see the CHN again on monday, hopefully we'll beable to get some plan to get her eating (even a little bit would do) I spoke to a couple of CHN's over the week, and they both said try the solids first, but if I manage to get some into her, she won't take her bottle, so i'm at a loss, its either get a little solids into and practically no milk, or get the milk into her and no solids :hair:

Babies
Chloe now 28 months
Pregnant with number 2 due 21/10/08
Gestational age at birth
Chloe 31 weeks 2 days 955 grams
Number 2 to be born between 24 and 30 weeks
Time spent in NICU/SCU
Chloe 8 weeks
Ongoing issues
Chloe was delayed physically but has caught up in the last 6 months. Still has digestion problems and weighs 11 kg
Reason for prematurity
Chloe was due to severe IUGR, failing placenta, PE
Baby 2 IUGR and failing placenta
Chloesma welcome, DS was IUGR as well.
Gizzy, Edward has been eating solids for about 7 months, for the first 4 or 5 he would only take tiny amounts and has gradually improved, he resists the bottle as well though!
Hi all
Would like to join the premmie club. DS was 35 weeks, he is now 3 1/2 mths.
I had out of control g/diabetes and due to polyhydramnios (excessive anmiotic fluid), I went into premature labour. Dr tried to stop the labour but DS was having none of that.
Because of the diabetes, DS lungs were not functioning well and he was put on the Bubble C-PAP for a week. He stayed in SCN for another 2 weeks because he still had trouble breathing, wasn't feeding, was so lethargic, and the paeds were concerned with his kidney and hips.
I was sent home 2 days after my caesar because there wasn't enough room in the hospital. I spent those next 3 weeks travelling 3-4 times a day back and forth from home and hospital. Not easy at the best of times, but much harder with a toddler and a school-aged child.
DS is doing much better, he has gained weight now but still has trouble with reflux, his eyes and is a little slow in developing motor skills (still can't lift his wobbly head). But he is smiling and is starting to coo, and I can see in his eyes that he recognises me. :)
Not so bad compared to what most of you went through.

Hey everyone! I only just found this section, damn my laziness not sussing out the hub more.
My DD was born at 34weeks due to spontanious labour, my waters started leaking around 2am but with no pain so i just went back to bed, woke up at 530 with slight abdominal pain then at 6 i began to get worried and it clicked that this was it. Got to the hosp at 730, had an epidural around 1230, began pushing at 4 n bubs was born at 422pm weighing 2.555kg and 48cms long.
She spend 7 days in incubator with oxygen, 14days being NGT fed, 2days under lights and was home after 15 days. She was breastfed till around 3 months but forght it alot, clawing at me and screaming switched her to formula but her bowels were bad and she was wheezy and also fought it so i put her on lactose free formula and shes thriving on it :) also loves her solids now too
She hasnt had any big delays, a few weeks later smiling and rolling but other than that she is pretty average. Im not sure about crawling as she doesnt show any interest or much arm strength at the moment hehe maybe shes just lazy
Would love to join in with u ladies so yeh..yay :)

Hi Everyone
I cant give out much info about the twins being fostered but I can some.
Mr K & Mr N.
Born via emergency C/S at 32+4 weeks due to TWIN IUGR and issues with birth mother
K - fine at birth.
N - CPAP 1.5days
Weighing:
K - 1740grams (3lb 7oz *I think*)
N - 1340grams (2lb 9oz *I think*)
Both had heart murmurs but dont have them now.
Both had umbilical hernias but they've righted themselves too. K's just after birth and N's only recently.
Spent 6 weeks and 2 days in SCN. Home before their due date :D
leaving hospital weights were:
K - 3300 grams
N - 2670 grams
Now
6 months, 1 week and 3 days.
corrected is 4 months 3 weeks.
Weights as of last week were:
K - 7kgs
N - 6.5kgs
So far we dont seem to have any problems. Both ahead for their milestones. Next appt is with the opthamologist. We think K may have sight problems but N seems okay.

My DD is ONE TODAY!!!:smiliedance:
And started walking on her own properly last Sunday! So proud of how far she's come!
Hi everyone,
Mind if I join in.
Ben and Matthew were born at 32 weeks due to TTTS.
Matthew spent 6 days in NICU and then next 4 weeks in the SCN.
Ben spent 5 weeks in the SCN.
No real major ongoing issues. We had a couple of admissions at the childrens hospital for Bronchialitis and a bad reaction to the MMR immunisation.
We think they have a dairy intolerance but generally, they are meeting all their milestones.
I look forward to getting to know you all much better.

Hi
Bub:
Twin 1 (Mr L) - 10 and half months
Twin 2 (Mr S) - 10 and half months
Gestational age at birth:
Twin 1 - 28 weeks + 2 days weighed 1205g
Twin 2 - 28 weeks + 2 days weighed 622g
Time in NICU/SCU:
Twin 1 - 3 weeks in NICU/7 weeks in SCU
Twin 2 - 5 weeks in NICU/ 6weeks in SCU then transferred to hospital closer to home for another 2 weeks. Was then transferred back to hospital where born for another week.
Complications at birth:
Twin 1 - Ventilated after delivery for 2 days then cpap for 1.5weeks. Small heart murmur but fixed itself.
Twin 2 - Was on cpap and had trouble coming off for long periods of time, developed 2 hernia's, required blood transfusions as he developed infections, problems with eyes. Also had problems feeding.
Ongoing issues:
Twin 1 - No ongoing issues
Twin 2 - Has high phosphate levels and will need regular check ups for his eyes
Reason for prematurity:
Found out at 18 weeks that twin 2 was smaller than twin 1 so next day mum was flown to hospital 700km away for specialist treatment. At 24 weeks twin 2 developed reverse blood flow from placenta and by 26 wks was starting to deteriorate with drs worried about developing TTTS.
Pennylane congratulations! It is a big acheivement how far you and your DD have come!
Shajbm welcome, It great that they have had so few complications since leaving SCN.
Auntynomes welcome also! Your bubs were in for a similar length of time to mine, it must have been tough being so far from home during that difficult time.
Edward has learnt to wave so thats exciting for us!

HI
Just found this thread too. Am still navigating my way around these forums. My DD is coming up to 7 months (5months corrected). She was born at 32 weeks due to severe PE. She was also IUGR weighing 1260g. It is all such a blur now but I think she was in NICU for about 4-5 days on CPAP and NGT, then transferred to SCN for about 5 weeks to fatten up. She was in the humidicrib and under lights for 3-4 weeks. She doesn't seem to have any ongoing issues. She is just little but very beautiful. We are so lucky!

Hi every one:wave:
National Premmie Day is on Next Friday the 25th
is anyone going to any of the events??
the holding them all over the place.
Pm me if you want the website address as im not sure if i can put it up:detective:
well i hope all our precious ones are well
My DD was born at 33 weeks, in NICU 24 hours then SCN 2 weeks.
She has CMPI and really bad reflux. As far as we know there are no lasting problems from being prem.
I just had to share that she has discovered how to blow raspberries this week. Its all she has done for the last 3 days and she thinks she is so clever, it cracks me up, I'm so proud :D
Hi Everyone
My DD was born at 32 weeks 2 days, She is now 7 months (5 months CA). I just went into labour and there was no stopping it. No reason given but I suspect I was leaking fluid for about a week. Kaisha was in ICN for 4 hours and then straight to SCN for 3 weeks and 3 days. She was another pretend Prem, weighed 1756g and had jaundice but that is all.
I got asked to leave the hospital after 3 days at 7am in the morning as they had people waiting in the birthing suite, talk about a rude awakening. Emotionally I wasn't ready to leave but I don't know if I ever would have been.
Used to get seriously annoyed at people who told me it was easier to have a baby in hospital. I was at the hospital from 8:30am til 10pm and then up every 3 hours expressing. Looking back i would definitely sleep longer at night but i was so paranoid about losing my milk.
Tried solids 2 weeks ago on GP's recommendation as Kaisha has gained 300g in 2 1/2 months. Was totally hopeless with that tongue reflex, then she came down with bronchiolitis two days later. Tried solids again this week and she is loving them and opening wide. So thats a relief!

I just found this thread great idea my DD was born at 33+2weeks due to ruptured membrains a few days b4 birth then fetal monitering dected destress of DD so i was induced.
She was in nicu for 4days then scu for 2weeks then scn for 2weeks.
She weighed 1.820kg was on cpap for 3days under lights for a week on and off has different blood type than me so that caused a few prob also had golden staph shes now 2months 1week and a few days corrected age.
She went back to hosp after a week at home because she lost weight was sleepy and couldnt regulate her tempture now home again is 3kg and having fortified feeds
I have been lurking in this thread for a while so thought I would come in and say hi:wave:
Matilda was born at 35 weeks. 2.8kgs. She spent three weeks in special care. There are no ongoing problems apart from a weak heart which is still monitored overnight.
She is an absolute delight and really is our miracle baby:cloud9:
She has also learnt how to blow raspberries, it is so cute!:raspberry:
Hi to all the new ones that have posted
Jasmine, good luck for tomorrow
how is everyone's babies going?
DD has finally grasped the concept of eating, we are now eating between 4 and 6 ice cubes, 3 times a day, i'm so proud of her, she's come along way in 6wks, she's gone from having that tongue thrust reflex to eating properly and opening her mouth in such a little amount of time,
Just a question for everyone, was/is your premmie behind in motor skills at all? if they were, how far behind were they before they started doing things? e.g rolling, sitting, doing 180's on the tummy etc etc
Oh wow :yelclap: What a good thread!!
My DD1 born 32weeks and 3 days, at 4lb 12 oz.
my waters broke the day before, and she was born V/B and from start to finish, 20mins, so lucky I was already in the hospital.
She spent 3 weeks in special care, and has no ongoing problems, that we know of.
And maybe im going to rock the boat here, but I dont like saying her correct age is.....
And I use to get crabby at the staff who consistantly told me, "she is not ment to be here yet,"
Well I know that but she is here, so lets get on with it. :p
Gizzy.... I cant really comment on the development. DD is almost 5 months so she hasn't really had any milestones to reach yet. Although I did notice that she took quite a while to smile. It was about 9 weeks, but so worth the wait.
I was interested to read about your DD's eating habits. Our paed has recommended we wait until 7.5 months ( 6 months corrected) because of her fragile stomach lining.
Did you struggle to get her to eat anything? If so, did you just wait a few months and try again?
Im not worried about it yet, just curious.

Hi and Welcome to all the nebies:wave:
Just a question for everyone, was/is your premmie behind in motor skills at all? if they were, how far behind were they before they started doing things? e.g rolling, sitting, doing 180's on the tummy etc etc
DS2 didnt start rolling until he was about 7-8mths old and 180's where about the same time but them he did a weekly phsyio session for a month and started comando crawling a few weeks later and was crawling soon after he started standing about 3wks after hes now 1 in a mth:eek: and still isnt sitting up without support he will sit like a centerfold model but doesn't sit up straight but thats slowly improving he also started cruising a few weeks ago
Percy, I didn't start DD on solids till around 7mths old, I didn't even try at 6mths old, as I could tell she definatly wasn't ready then, and even at 7mths she still wasn't really ready, she was a little interested, but she still had that tongue thrust reflex thing going on till she was just about 9mths old, she lost that about 4/5wks ago now, she's just over 10mths old now, and she's really getting into it now, we're still working on her drinking water etc out of cups though
H&D'smummy, we're still waiting to see the physio, the speachie comes around again next week, so will ask again when to expect to be seen by the physio, do you think its helped DS2? or do you think he would've done what he's doing now anyways wether he saw the physio or not?
DD still does nothing, sometimes will roll back to frount, but only to her right, and only every now and then, she hates her tummy, doesn't have much upper body strength I don't think, she pushes her self up, but only lasts maybe a minute, if that, then starts getting grumpy and then face planting the floor, she's not doing 180's, barely reaches out for toys when on her tummy, she might try once, then realise its to far away, then gives up, she's so lazy lol
anyone got any tips to give me to help her get moving, I would be so stoaked to even have her do 180's on the floor, doesn't look like its goign to happen anytime soon though

Gizzy: i found the weekly sessions really helped hes been seeing them since we came home from hospital we had monthly and fortnight visits but they didn't do much. but he had one a week all of april (he was turning 8mths) and that helped heaps he went from not doing much at all maybe sometimes rolling to hes left
to rolling, getting up on hes hands, etc and by june he was crawling
But hes had a few issues with favoring hes left side even now he still does it even with hes hands
Percy: My DS2 is like gizzys DD also we didnt start until he was 7mths (end of march/april)but he wasn't really interested he would have a few good weeks and eat well then have a fortnight of not being interested and only since 1/2 through June (almost 10mths) he has really taken off and eats well most of the time
hmmm I might push for the physio when the speachie comes here next week then, she hasn't improved at all over the past few mths,
sounds like 10mths might be the age that our babies get the hang of food, just like your DS2, DD would have her good days then really bad days, then ok days, then really good days again, so frustraiting :hair:
can you believe our babies are turning 1 soon, I can't beleive a year has just about passed, time goes way too fast these days

good idea about the milestone talk :)
I think my DD started smiling quite late, she spent the first 6 weeks (how prem she was) sleeping then feeding then sleeping straight away again. it was like she was catching up hehe.
She also was a bit later rolling, 4 n half months. yet she started sitting unassisted at 5 n half months as well as solids (took to them great)
No crawling yet and shes 8 months next week (shes not far off though, getting on her knees for short periods)
Good luck with the birth of ur bub tomorrow Jasmine :)

Morning ladies. My two are now a bit older than most. They'll be turning 3 in September. We've found with DD she has hit most milestones around chronological age whilst DS3 has hit them at corrected age or slightly later. We started DD on solids at 6mths chronological but DS wasn't ready until his corrected age.
One thing that we found a great resource is that our hospital ran a baby skills outpatient clinic for speech, ot and physio. We went once a month and not only did the HPs monitor their progress but they gave us activities/exercises that helped with development.
Our son has been diagnosed with a mild receptive language delay and has just completed his first term of speech therapy and his progress has been astounding. We've always taken the approach that early intervention and monitoring means that any delays can be addressed well before school age.

Thought I would add by georgeous little boy.
Child: Logan
Gestational Age at Birth: 34 weeks, 4 days
Weight: 2.9 kg (Boomba)
Complications at birth: Couldn't control his temp, jaundice, not sucking properly, fluxuating oxygen saturation levels ... Standard stuff.
Time spent in NICU/SCN: 11 days in SCN but was almost sent to NICU in Adelaide as Melbourne was full. My good little darling started to behave just in time. :yelclap:
Ongoing Issues: Not meeting all of his milestones, even at 'corrected age'. Has GORD and difficulties breathing. Other than that, pretty good.
Reasons for prematurity: Waters broke (just after watching Ramsey's kitchen nightmares - too much swearing?) 2 1/2 hours later I had a georgeous bubby who I got to see for about 2 minutes before he was whisked away.

Hi all I was wondering what things my DD should b doing shes 11 weeks 4 weeks corrected age and she hasnt smiled yet (directly at me) she smiles in her sleep or when gassy but not at any1 even when shes cooed at, she holds her head up unsupported and can do push ups at tummy time (she hates tummy time) I dont no what to expect and MHN just tells me shes early so she'll do things when reddy I no theres no norm for premmies but what am I supposed to expect (hope i make sence) Thanks
My DD was 7 weeks early. I think she first smiled around 11 weeks. It was once and then we had to wait another week for another, it wasn't until she was about 3 1/2 months that we got at least one daily smiles. She hated tummy time (still does) and only really started lifting up a bit around 4 months. She suffers from severe reflux so didn't have much to smile about and screams then throws up when on her belly.
I found it really fustrating when the MHN say that she'll do it in her own time. But these were the same ones that gave little support when I had troubles with my DD formula and dimissed signs of silent reflux.
Thankfully I had a great mother's group that continued catching up, but I have started to notice recently that she is not 'keeping up' with the other bubs and she's one of the oldest. I wonder if it is just her personality, whether she's prem or because the reflux and therefore lots of her time being held upright.
Oh I just had to share, DD first smile was when I was admitted to ED, I think the big fluro lights brought back fond sleepy memories of the SCN for her.

thanks sciend my DD likes being held upright 2.
I had a fantastic MHN for DS but she moved when he was 2 now they keep changing them I had a SCNurse for a 2 weeks for DD but she stressed me out heaps as she was very pro breast feeding and while i wanted to BF it was more important 2 me for DD to gain weight and she wasnt so she ended up back in hosp then the SCN wanted me to express, feed and express again she expected all this whith a 4.5 yo, running to and from hosp and I was sleep deprived as well so i gave up and im glad cos DD has now chaught up in the weight steaks and im not stressing bout how much shes getting

Jess I'm not sure where you are but there might be a premmie playgroup near you. I found it really helpful to talk to Mums that had already been there done that.
Jess
I can sympathise completely! DS is 3 and was an absolute nightmare to try and entertain while DD was in hospital. My supply totally dried up at one stage, but fortunately i was readmitted to hospital and was able to work on it again, without having to worry about DS or DH!
DD is still breastfeeding now and is sitting just below average, but not serious enough for a return to hospital.
Im glad that you are happy doing what works for you and bub.
DD was 5 weeks early and we got her first smile at 8 weeks, and then pretty consisently at 10 weeks.
She pushed herself up for the first time today at 5.5 months, hopefully she will start to enjoy tummy time a bit more now.
Ive attached a photo:D

My DS2 was 7 weeks early, and didn't start smiling until 11-12 weeks (6-7 weeks corrected) & even then it was only every now & then. About a week later, he started doing more & now at 15 weeks he smiles all the time. It took a while until he actually smiled 'at' you though, & I was also concerned.

Logan started smiling properly (not gas or sleeping) at about 16 weeks. Now he does it all the time!
He hates tummy time and still doesn't do push ups. He won't even put his hands forward when on his tummy, and when forced, he keeps them clenched. I think it may be due to the GERD. I wouldn't want to lie on my tummy just to chuck and face-plant in it either. :barf:
His new thing is saying any sound with a d or a t in it. I think he has discovered my hubby gives him heaps of attention with any sound containing a d so he repeats them. T must just be a throw in.

Ditto for DD and the face planting in chuck.
Our little milestone on the weekend was she discovered her feet. Qite funny mixed with the teething. She got so worked up when she couldn't make her foot reach her mouth and did her I want to chew growl and shake.

I was just wondering at what age did your bubs start to have good head control during tummy time? DS was born at 35 weeks and he is currently corrected age 7 and a half weeks old and doesn't lift his head during tummy time. He has good head control when we hold him and when we sit him on our knee.
Should I be worried? We saw a hcn today and she said that he is a bit behind in reaching some milestones:o but I thought he was doing great being 5 weeks prem.

Mel - fancy seeing you in here lol. Does he just show no interest on his belly on the floor? What about if he's lying on your chest?
Hi Mel
My DD was also born at 35 weeks and is a little behind too.
She is 4 months corrected and only just starting to lift her head during tummy time. It takes alot of encouragement too.

:laughing:Yep I'm here. He doesn't mind being on the floor but screams after about 5mins. He just lays there with his head to the side and makes no effort to lift it. When we have him on our tummy's, he lifts his head a little but not much.
I guess i'm just doubting myself cause i honestly thought he was going well with this but the hcn had other thoughts. She suggested putting him on the dining room table and sit in front of him to encourage him. Going to try that and see how we go.
You could also try a pillow. I started propping DD up on a pillow for tummy time and she seemed to tolerate that better.
He will get there eventually. :hugs:

MammaDj Baby Girl – Congratulation. Abbie is a lovely name

Hi
Chais is drooling so much, he's choking on that! He's actually almost stopped breathing a couple of times from it. Is that normal? He also sounds like he has some kind of phlem or something on his chest, but he's not sick. Don't know what that could be.

:wave::D
thats doesnt sound good could he be teething which he why hes drooling so much???
I would get it checked/ask about it next you see your paed or MCHN
D used to and still sometimes sound like a freight train but he chest was always clear unless hes sick
does Chais have reflux???? coz D did and quite a few on LAP said there Prems where like it to????
now Ds reflux has gone away hes chest isn't as bad.
i would just get it checked next time you see someone:hugs:
Yeah, he does have reflux, maybe that's it. we're back at the paed next Thursday, so hopefully I can get some answers then. We still haven't found that 'perfect' dose of losec yet, so maybe once we do it might go away?
My daughter was born delivered 4 weeks early due to pre-eclampsia, shes 7month old now, and has her own little attitude :) we were in hospital for 3weeks in total, she was in special care for 8 days, being tube fed and on to a drip, it was hard thought, because i asked the midwife several times could i hold my daughter and the answer was no. It was hard but she got out of special care was roomed with me for 2days and we got out, she was soo tiny, my family and friends thought it was difficult to hold her as she was small, i didn't! i knew she was small, but it was difficult to hold her.

anyway for those that dont know me - i have 2 prems and 2 full termers.
Bub:
ds2 : Hayden - now 2yrs + some mths!
ds3: William - now 12 weeks and 1 day old!
Gestational age at birth:
DS 2: 32wks 2166gm
DS 3: 30wks 1502gm
Time in NICU/SCU:
DS 2: 15 days in scn, 5 hrs of cpap, jaundice (persisitant devil of a thing), started breast feeds at 3 days old.
DS 3: 5 weeks in hospital - 3 days (roughly) in nicu, the rest in scn. 1 day on vent, 12 hrs on cpap, lost approx 200gm in first few days (i blame it on mummy not being there, due to wanna be super man brother in the picu!), he started breast feeds rather soon (i cant say all the exact details as simply i cant remebr off the top of my head - got other things to think of right now!).
Ongoing issues:
DS2: nothing
DS3: hearing issues, fluid in his ears atm, and possible reflux on the cards - dr visit tomorrow!
Reason for prematurity:
PPROM for both! (following PROM @38 weeks with ds1!)

Hi hope all the lil prem's r doing well I had a pead appointment yesterday (dd is 9months 7+1 corrected) he was happy with dd except her weight she on the 25% with weight and height so I didnt think it was a problem but he wants me to try feeding her more soilds(she has them 3x a day) so Il just try and feed her more.
DD is now getting onto her knees so soon she will be on the move, rolling all over the place and seem's to have grown into a real screamer if she isnt getting any attention she screams at the top of her lungs such a diva.
