View Full Version : One period in 12 months after DS, does this mean no O?

Hi there,

I've had one period in the 12 months since my son was born, and it was about three months ago.

Does this mean I'm not ovulating? I'm considering TTC #2, and I'm concerned there might be a problem.

Thanks!

Jane, thats correct in that you arent ovulating (except for maybe once before your last af). You cant ovulate and not get af. If you O, you will always get af. So if you arent getting af, you aren't o'ing. If you are still bfing, this may be causing the delay of your cycles returning, but if not, I would get checked out. We started ttc when my son was 8 months, and I still hadnt had af. I went to my GYN who diagnosed me with pcos after scans and blood tests. Im not saying this is the same for you..it may be normal for you to take a while for its return, but if you are planning to start ttc soon, I would get it checked out...they can do blood tests to check your hormone levels, etc. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the reply.

I stopped BFing a month ago (my sons choice, not mine) and I haven't had AF since. I've had some mild period pain, but else to indicate that it's coming.

I might go to the doctor and get it checked out, I want to start TTC again, so it's probably best to have a check up anyway.

If you only stopped bfing a month ago, its most likely due to that. It may take a few months for your hormones to get back on track....a check up never hurts tho. :)
