View Full Version : How long does it take
I have a 6 month old daughter who has started to fight her daytime sleeps and has going through a patch of not wanting to sleep at night unless I had her in our bed. I have just started the controlled crying method and its so stressful but I'm really holding out hope that it will work. How long (days/weeks/months) until we should start to see results? The day sleeps are the hardest. I have been using the method of increasing the comfort time by 2 minute increments and presently during the day she is getting up to the 10 minute mark and this is our 3rd day of the controlled crying. Night time isn't really an issue as she tends to fall asleep after her last feed and sleeps until about 5am. Would appreciate any positive feedback.

We saw great results within a week for night sleeping.:D
No advice on the day sleeps though, we didn't use it for daytime but stuck to a strict routine of play, bottle then bed. DS is now 22 months old and still on the same routine (and still on 2x2hr sleeps per day !).

Hi
We started at about 6 wks because I was just beside myself and didn't know what else to do. We haven't had any issues since then but sometimes now we put bub down and he might still be talking or yelling and we just leave him til he falls asleep. It's only when he's obviously distressed that we go to him and we can tell the difference between his serious cries and not so serious ones. It is hard to walk away from them. Some days when he just won't sleep I put him down and go into the back yard so i can only just hear him. We generally give him 10 minutes now coz after about 2 he settles down and just gibbers to himself.
Not sure if this helps at all but maybe you just need to be strict with yourself and not go to her? I don't know coz every bubs different..............
Thanks Ange and rynosmum, I'll keep perservering with it and hopefully it will get better. I guess the shock to the system has been that up to now she's been so good at putting herself to sleep and now all of a sudden she's decided to play up. The taking a walk in the garden sounds like a good idea, next time my stress levels rise I'll take the baby monitor outside and sit in the garden.
Good luck with it. It shouldn't take too long, especially since (as you say) she is able to put herself to sleep by herself.
Love,
Nan. xx
