Hi everyone,
My beautiful daughter is 2 months old today :smiliedance: but the thing is since day one she has had really bad hiccups. She gets them continously throughout the day, after a feed, before a feed, changing a nappy, going to sleep etc. i dont know what to do, and i know that they hurt her cause when i hold her i can feel how strong they are and sometimes she cries which only makes it worse. is there anthing i can do?
Do you breast or bottle feed? If you breast feed do you have a bottle or 2 around also? Try giving her a small amount of water when she gets the hiccups. This can sometimes help to get rid of them.

she is bottle fed. ive tried doing that but all she does is spit it out, i dont think she particularly likes water.
try these:
1) sit her up on your lap, gently pushing up her neck/chin and rub down her back with other hand (ask yr midwife/nurse)
2) if u are bottlefeeding, try an anti-colic or lactose-free formula. also let the bubble settle abit in the bottle before feeding. maybe breastmilk may help?
3) get one of those anti-colic milk bottle as its designed to lessen air swallowing while feeding
as far as i know, burping is not harmful. i think yr kid can beat that! see a doc if u still worry too much.

my daughter has this but she had the hiccups all through the last trimester and she is now 10 weeks old and still has them everyday most of the day
i went to the doc about it and he said not to worry about it as she will soon grow out of it and the main thing i was to do was give her water and if she didn't take the water put a tiny bit of honey in the water but i had to make up 180 of water and a drop of honey and she should take ity and she dose
i have noticed that i slows them down but not stop them
sorry if im not much help
cheers Catlin's Mumma
Sorry I don't have any advice to help, but just letting you know lots of hiccups are normal.
I remember DS had them almost every night for the last couple months before he was even born. Once born he would often get them a couple times per day. And I am a BFing mum and at 9 months he still gets them almost once per day - usually when he's tired I've noticed:detective:. Annoying really, cause they make it harder for him to settle.
Caitlinsmumma - Honey can be harmful to babies - I don't know why your DR suggested it. It can contain botulisim - a brain toxin. Don't use Honey - please. Plain sugar will sweeten the water without possible side effects.

My Dr told me to use brown sugar because it is more natural (not sure if thats a fact but thats what I was told).

I found this style of burping very effective with DS, especially if I gently jiggled my leg at the same time.

Buy some infant Wind Drops from the chemist or the supermarket in the baby section. They're free from alcohol and other nasties. I think they also sell a homeopathic brand (gripe oil?).
It helped DD enormously!
