my dd has been making very weird noises mostly in her sleep, like she is choking on something and usually gasps for breath after, there is never anything in her mouth and we have tried sleeping her on an incline and on both her side and in desperation her stomach but she still has trouble. Can anyone offer some advice or know of possible causes, i've taken her to 2 Dr's and both said it's normal. She's been doing it since she was born and i have a 6 year old who never did this. Sorry if this is too long, i'm just very worried.

I don't mean to get too personal or anything but was bub born by ceasar?? I only ask cos my DD was born emergency ceasar and we had many many problems with her and too much mucus (think thats spelt wrong) in her lungs etc. We were told this was because of the ceasar and if your labour vaginally it all gets squeezed out. Sorry for TMI. :p Anyway, this went on like you describe for about 4 months and then it gradually got better as she got older. It would happen a lot when she was drinking too and milk would come out her nose and I'd think she was choking. It was awful. I don't know if this is the same for you but if you are really stressed about it then keep going back to the doc. I had DD back to the hospital 3 times in the first month cos I was terrified so was going to choke but they'd check her out and all would be fine. Then we'd leave and it would happen again etc. Good news is she grew out of it. Sorry to blab on :hugs:
Could she posible have silent reflux i know that that can cause the problem you are discribing, my DD made shocking sounds while breathing, hers was a combination of reflux and laryngotraceomalacia

Or perhaps sleep aponea, where bubs catches their breath after an episode and often cough. My DD did this alot. Its boody scary!! Although she has laryngotraciamalacia too.
I was thinking sleep apnoea. Do you have a paediatrician you can take her to?

We had a natural birth so i don't think it could be to much mucus but thanks guys very helpful! my DP has sleep apnoea so it was the first thing i asked and both DR's said they had never heard of it in babies. DD just had her 2 month check up and needles, and i asked the DR again as she is still doing it and now she 'chokes' while awake! He said everything looked normal and i shouldn't worry as 'it's normal' grrrrrrr getting a bit frustrated. Does anyone else have any advice? As i don't want to go to another DR just to be told 'it's normal' and get given the look!
babies can have sleep apnoea..
Babies can have sleep apnoea, but this sounds more like a reflux issue, whereby the milk/acid comes back up into the throat, causing largyngospasm espescially as she's doing it when awake as well.
Check out the refluc thread here on BubHub and ask for a referral to a Paediatrician

He baby did this too. Started about a week after we got home from hospital. Intitally i thought it was mugus, but each time he recovered on his own.... by the time he was a month old i would just watch him do it and make sure he was ok... My DH was still freaking out each time, grabbing baby whacking his back, tipping him upside down etc... I had to tell him to stop doing this thing because on top of chocking the baby was also getting distressed, upset and it was making the problem worst. Once we allow bubs to recover on his own each time it wasn't that bad.... He slept in this cot beside me and offen i woke to he chocking and gagging. He did have reflex and raising one end of his cot helped. He grew out of it at 6 months
