Hi,

I am about to try my bub on formula (working up to it) and I am wondering how long you can keep a warm bottle in the bottle warmer safely? I bought one today but it doens't tell you anything.

How do you store when going out. Do you just have the water in the bottle and then add the formula or already have it made up. I guess just having the water would be safest as you could reheat if in the bottle warmer too long and gone too cold?

What do people do?

most people just take the water in the warmer and add the formula when they need it. i used to do this but now DS has cut down on bottles so i can go out without him wanting a bottle :)

I find that a freshly boiled bottle of water (REALLY HOT) - will still be fairly hot 4 hours later - IF insulated... that way you dont need a microwave.. the bottle is STILL hot..

I never let formula sit around - I ALWAYS at the formula just before serving... just in case ... I'm just too wary of it going funny,...

I have an Avent bottle and food warmer.
I keep the dial on 3 and when the light goes off to say its ready to put the bottle in.
If the bottle has come from the fridge i leave a MAX of 3 mins and voila it is ready.
Generally it is ready in around 2 and a half mins.

As for going out, I try to take warm/hot water already in the bottles and make the formula up just before I need to feed my daughter. There are little formula containers you can buy from the supermarkets rather than having to go to the expense of buying the stick packs of formua. If I know I am going to be out for a long time and dont have access to a food warmer or kettle I take my portable (purchased online from ETOC for $30) bottle warmer.
It is a liquid pack you wrap around the bottle and activate the heating by clicking a metal disc which heats the liquid.
Its great but takes about 10 to 15 mins to heat the water.

I always make it fresh. They say you shouldnt leave it standing any longer then an hour as it goes off like cows milk.

I have seen those bottle warmer things that Cheek Little Monkey was talking about on ebay for about $15. I have heard they are really good. Although if you have a hungry bubby 10-15mins is a long time to wait.

If the bottle of boiled water has been refrigerated do you just reheat it then add the formula? Is this okay to do or can't you let the water go cold in the fridge.

It sounds like it is better to add formula just before use.

When I have used breast milk at home I have always just heated in hotwater in a mug, that is stand the bottle in it as it was quicker than the electric bottle warmer I have. I was refering to the bottle warmers that you take out that are insulated sounds like 4hours is okay?.

I had no intention on bottle feeding, but life doesn't always go to plan. So bub has been bottle fed from one week old. I didn't even know about formula dispensers. They are terrific as you measure out the formula before you go out, and then it's just a matter of opening the lid and pouring into the bottle when bubs is ready for a feed.

The bottle bag I have doesn't seem to keep the bottles warm unless I heat the water quite hot and then wrap in foil. Otherwise take a thermos of hot water with you to heat the bottle in. Most shopping centre parent rooms have microwaves in them.
