My endo has told me that I need to have 3 x A1C tests of less than 7% before he is happy for me to ttc again. I have had one at 6.6% and about to have another ...

What things do you suggest I do in addition to this before ttc. I am only on insulin since my last pregnancy and I am pretty new to this. Although I have been on insulin in all four of my pregnancies ...

I'm on Lantus once daily - a pretty hefty dose at 120 units.

I am an insulin dependent diabetic as well and let me say that your dose of Lantus seems WAY too high. Are you seeing a dietitian? What are your BG levels? 120 units is heaps. Are you on a 2nd type? If not, I think you need to see a new endo.

I am on Protophane (30units morning 10 night) and Actrapid (15u breakfast & 20 dinner) My last A1c was 5.8 and the one before that was 7.8 and my endo is more than happy with my levels.

I'd see a dietitian to see what foods your eating and how they can help get you off of that much insulin.

PM me or add me to MSN if you need any one to talk to.

I'm due to have a phone appointment with my endo in a couple of days. I want to discuss possibly going back to a smaller dose of Lantus overnight and a couple of doses of novorapid during the day.

I have only been back on insulin for a little while - for 7 weeks after having Ruby my bsls were normal and I thought that all was well ... how wrong was I!!!

When I am pregnant, I end up on over 300 units all up of novorapid and lantus each day - for some reason, my body just doesn't respond to small doses.

As for diet ... I am pretty strict, but do confess that as I am only just newly grieving my DD2 I am a bit naughtier at times than usual (never excessive - maybe an extra carb option at a meal every few days). My endo is aware of this and is astounded at how well everything is going despite it.

I seem to be incredibly sensitive to carbs that other diabetics seem to handle really well - ie, I can have no pasta, rice, oatmeal, sweet potato etc - they just send my sugars through the roof! I get most of my carbs through peas, corn, wholegrain bread and vitawheat crackers.

A typical day of bsl readings is like this ...

fasting 3.8 - 5.0
after breakfast 4.1 - 6.1
after lunch 4.3 - 6.0
after dinner 7.5 - 11.1

I can't wait to get his verdict on a new regime ... he is a great endo - he helped me get through my pregnancy with an A1C of around 5.2 each time and Ruby was only 9lb 8oz at 39 weeks with very few low bsl problems unlike my DS who was 13lb 2oz at 36 weeks and had really low bsl for a few days.

I bake my babies big and very tall, so Ruby's size was pretty good - she wasn't fat like my DS.
