Hi GUys,,
just wondering what other people are taking in the way of pregnancy vitamins. I have been taking the blackmores pregnancy and breastfeeding vitamins, but a friend recommended the natal plus which is made by eagle pharmaceuticals. Is anyone else taking this. My pharmacist actually told me that elevit is the best one on the market to take and is highly recommended by ob and gynae doctors.

I would appreciate any feedback

Cheers Pippa

Hi Pippa,
I'm currently 19 weeks thru my 3rd pregnancy & am taking the blackmores pregnancy & breastfeeding vitamins too and I did so through my other 2 pregnancies as well. When Australia had that massive recall of medications not too long ago I got a list and as far as I knew, none of the blackmores medications were recalled.

My obstetrician asked me at my first visit if I was taking any and she seemed quite happy that I was even taking something! I think the Elevit brand is mentioned more through doctors etc because they might have a few 'incentives' from the company (maybe). I've seen a lot more advertising for the Elevit brand lately in the way of pamphlets & magazine advertising but when it comes down to it I think they're all pretty much the same (compare the lables on the bottles next time you're at your pharmacy, the vitamin content is fairly similar).

I'd say stick with the one you're happy with, the brand you can trust & the one that's the most affordable for you. I have!

I took Elevit throughout my pregnancy up till now because i'm still breastfeeding Thomas, and this one is the best by far. My older brother who is an Ob also recomends Elevit for his patients.

Don't forget healthy lifestyle is also important! I still eat normal thro my pregnancy and now, spicy food and all. But I don't smoke, drink, or any other stuff, not even drink coffe nor tea only milo occasionally. Aye am boring person! lol

As a result tho, Thomas is now 3.5 months old, a healthy, happy baby :D

Hi Pippa,
hope you are doing okay. I am taking Elevit and started taking it months before I got pregnant again after my miscarriage. It was recommended to me by a family friend who is a fertility specialist - he said it was the best one to take (it has 800 micrograms of Folic Acid rather than 500 like most of them do which I think is better). My obstetrician was happy I was taking it and said it is good to take.

I couldn't agree more.

Nothing beats a healthy lifestyle and the vitamins should only be there as a boost to your diet, not as a sole method of getting your vitamins.

But it's also good to know that in this busy world of motherhood, when mother often doesn't come first that we can always rely on a good pregnancy multi-vitamin to keep our systems topped up with what's best for our develping babies.

Cheers
