Scan today after pain in lowar abdoman...

Hello,
I had a scan today at the maternity hospital because i have had persistant pains on my right side. From my calculations i am 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant (being first day of lmp was the 18/4) but the scan only showed a sac but no yolk sac or baby in it yet. Has anyone else experienced this? am i out with my calculations or could it be something worse? could it be that im going to have a miscarraige cos the baby isnt forming? im so scared now. please be honest. i need to know. Hi Bubbly Mum,

I had a scan when I was "5 weeks pregnant" and they couldnt see any real sign of pregnancy. It was because my dates were a bit out and I was only 4 and a bit weeks pregnant. Therefore it was a bit early to see anything major. I wouldnt worry just yet.

As far as I remember, that's pretty normal at that stage...I had the same thing happen with this bub - and I'm a week away from my EDD. A week after that initial scan, and there was bub, complete with heartbeat.

Try not to stress until after you chat to your GP or careprovider, okay? :hugs:

I had the same thing happen with my 2nd pregnancy. My doctors app was at 7 weeks and the doctor only found the sac. I panicked something shocking but then at my 9 week app there was my little bubba for all to see. I know it is hard not to worry but it is just too early sometimes to see anything. I am sure everything will be fine at your next visit and your little bubba will be on the screen.

I had that with my first pregnancy. I had a dating scan as my last AF was 3 months prior.... it showed a sac but no baby because I was only 5 weeks pregnant. I now have a healthy almost 2 year old!

Im not apart of this group but wanted to say the exact same thing happened to me 5 weeks with no sign of a bubba... i now have a very healthy 13 month old bubba :yes:

Absolutely. At 5 weeks I had very nasty right sided pain and so had a scan for possible ectopic. They just saw a sac, but it was in the uterus, so I was happy. The right sided pain continued without obvious cause, [the corpus luteum was on the left], until 14 weeks, and now, thankfully I'm pain free. I was so worried about the pain and the empty sac I talked my way into a repeat scan at nine weeks just to see a heart beat!

Ive had this. I was 6 weeks and 5 days and the sacs (there was 2 empty sacs) were measuring a week behind my dates. I knew something was wrong then :(

We had another scan a week later and found once again no babies. I knew that that we had blighted ovums (missed misscarriage) and I needed a D&C.

We have the scan the week after because the ultrasound lady said that too many times they have been fooled and a little baby is visable after a week! So hold in there and let us know what happens at your next scan! Fingers crossed for you!

Hi, I had an ultrasound for the exact same reason today and everything was fine. I was convinced that i had an ectopic pregnancy due to a constant pain ( dull and sometimes stabbing)on my lower rhs for the last week or so. My scan showed a gestational sac and a VERY small yolk sac. Try not to worry, mine was only just visible and I am 5 wks and 3 days pregnant. I was told to come back in a week or 2 to see the heartbeat as it's a bit too early for that too.
