Hi all...
This might sound a little silly but can someone please explain to me about the temp testing???
When should I start taking my temp and how do I know that I am ovulating??
We have one daughter already she is two and we would like to give her a brother or a sister.
We have been ttc since January 08 and still no luck. This month I tried using one of the pregnancy planning kits. I started testing my urine on day 13 and did one test everyday for the next 5 days and everyday got a positive result???
So we have been busy in bed since we got the positive results.
So hopefully this month will be it! but if not I would like to know how to do the temp testing for next month

Any Advice would be wonderful:)

Hi ML2 - I would say your best bet to get the most information is to head over to Fertility Friend . com and make up an account for yourself. It is free and then you can access all the information you need. Also you can input your temps and additional data to keep it in order. Good luck.

Hi Mummyluv2 - Firstly I'll apologise for the long post but to try and explain a few things will be a bit! :D

I agree with SOL, go to fertility friend and get yourself a free account. Start it as soon as you can, it can be mid cycle, or start the day you get your AF. Have a look at the link in my signature if you want to see some of my charts and what the program does.

Buy yourself a BBT digital thermometer from your local chemist (about $15), if you can get one with two decimal points it will be even better but only if it's not much more $$......

Basically take your temperature when you wake up first thing in the morning - whilst you are still in bed - I keep mine next to the bed with a notepad to write it down. You need to try and take it at the same time every day and after a good solid sleep I think of atleast 3 hours.

Record your temperature in fertility friend . You will find that you will have a temperature drop the day before you ovulate and when you chart it in fertility friend you can see the peaks and troughs to help you spot it. Fertility friend will tell you you've ovulated once it sees a dip, followed by 3 high temperatures in the 3 days after your dip. It does this by putting a line on your chart to tell you that you've o'd. It also takes into account any of your OPK tests youve done and entered along with any cervical mucas that you record.

Would be good to record your cervical mucas in your chart too - it has options of dry, creamy, watery, eggwhite. Watery is the start of your fertile time, and when you get eggwhite (clear stretchy) that is generally around the day you ovulate.

There is also a tab in there for you to record your results from your OPK tests you have been doing. Sounds like you have been doing them at the right times. YOu know that you will generally get 2 lines anyway around that week that you ovulate?? but the one you need to get excited about is when your test line is as dark or darker than your control line - this is the one that generally will show that you HAVE had the LH surge (hormone surge) which causes you to release the egg within the next 36 hours generally, so thats when you need to start getting busy bd'ing.

Basicallly then after you have ovulated, you want your temperatures to be above the line that fertility friend puts on your chart. If you get a drop around 5-10DPO this 'can' be a sign of conception, but not always, and if you get any spotting around this time it can also be a sign.

Hope that helps, feel free to pm me if you want to chat about any of it in anyway..... :fingerscrossed:

I temp each day first thing and have been doing it underarm, but this month I am going to start vaginally as it apparently more reliable and not susceptible to as much fluctuations.... a lot of people put the thermometer under their tongue in the back pocket as well.... I would start doing it internally either in the mouth or vaginally rather than underarm.

The brand I use is the 'confirm' brand from the supermarket (Coles). Its about $18 and has 5 ovulation tests and 1 pregnancy test. That is an expensive way of buying them, or you can buy cheaper ones which apparently work just as well from lullaby conceptions online, or from EBAY.

I'm pretty sure I received it same day - I think they have to process it. YOu wont be able to apply again as it will say your already a member.

Send an email off to the contact us section - they are really good and generally get back to you within a day. It's an american site so they will probably answer your email if you do it soon.
