View Full Version : Bub's bedtime, wake-up time & naps?
Hi Everyone
Just curious what time everyones bubs go to bed at night-time and what time they wake-up to start the day. Also how many naps are they having and at what time of the day?
My bub is 71/2 months and goes to bed between 6.30 - 7pm and wakes up to start the day at 6am. He wakes first at about 4.30am and has a 15 minute breastfeed then goes back down till about 6am. He is having 2 day time naps. The first one 3 hours after he wakes up at approx 9am and the second one around 1pm. They range from 40 mins to 1hr 15 mins. Lately he seems to be resisting the second nap so I'm thinking maybe I should be putting him down later for that one, although he seems grizzly and tired when I do put him down.
My son is 7 mths and each day is quite different. he usualy wakes between 5am and 6pm, has a bottle and breakfast he will then go down for a sleep between 7.30 am and 9.30 am and can sleep for 1 to 3 hours. He usualy has morning tea the lunch and a bottle. His next sleep happens between 12pm and 2pm and lasts about 1 hour. He then has afternoon tea and a bottle at about 4pm. Sometimes he will have a sleep fpr 45min to 1 hour after that otherwise he grumbles until dinner at 5pm then bath and bed. Bed time is somewhere between 6.30 and 7.30pm, depending on if he had a nap before dinner. He then feeds at about 10pm and sleeps(with a few resettles) until 5 or 6am.
As you can see Nathan sets his own routine we just go on his tired signs.

Hi there!
My son is 6.5 months old and he has 2 naps per day....the morning is about 45mins - 1hour, afternoon is 1.5 - 2 hours.
I spoke with a mothercraft (family friend) and she is also well known in our parts for her brilliant settling/sleeping/routine strategies and i get free advice from her which I find gold!!
She does suggest that the afternoon sleep be longer as eventually the morning one will go but the afternooon will stay.
If bub wakes in afternoon and has not had at least 1 hour, should use resettling techniques.
My day with Oscar is normally like this....
7am breastfeed
730am rice cereal
930am sleep (45mins - 1hour)
11am breastfeed
Midday - yoghurt
130pm - sleep (1.5 to 2 hours)
3/330pm breastfeed
5pm - dinner
7pm bottle and bed
Just a few tips .
take care.

Hi there!!
Grace is 10 months and goes to bed at night between 6:30-7:00pm and wakes at 6:00-6:30 each morning. She then goes down for a nap at about 9am for about and hour. In the afternoon at about 1:30pm she sleeps for another 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

hi there,
i have a rather odd sleeper he is almost 5 months and still has 3-4 naps a day between 30-1hr (if i'm lucky) he sleeps through from 7pm to 6am roughly. i was worried at first cause i had read alot of stuff (including CN) saying you have to resettle your baby, they wont learn to slep etc etc, but talked to different CHN and she said if i was happy then thats ok and he must be able to resettle if he sleeps all night...makes sense to me now :p
peace
Thanks for your replies everyone.
Jack is still not going down well for his afternoon nap. At the moment I'm making sure he's been awake for a full 3 hours and then putting him down which means its usually around 1.30 - 2.00 but he just doesn't seem tired like he used too. Yesterday he grizzled for 30-40 mins then fell asleep for a whole 20 mins!
I guess I'll try keeping him up for longer and looking for his tired signs more rather than looking at the clock. The 3 hour rule used to work really well......but as we know you just get a routine sorted and they go and move the goal posts on you :)

My daughter goes to bed at about 6pm, she wakes at 6am talking in her cot. I ignore her as she is not crying. She puts herself back to sleep and then wakes up at about 8.30am every morning. I have got her into a good routine so I can get a bit of a sleep in. She has a bottle and some baby ceral and goes back to bed 2 hours later for about an hour and then wakes up for some more food and stays awake for about 2 - 3 hours then back to bed for a 30 min nap and wakes againg for a few hours, has a play maybe half a bottle then back to bed for 30 mins then up until she has a bath last bottle for the night and to bed at 6pm and it starts all over again the next day.

Hi all,
You all have amazing babys my soon to b 6mth old on the 11th of june wont sleep more than 7 hours.
How do you all get them to sleep 10 - 12 hours????????????
Needless to say my hubby and I have our own business selling "3" mobile phones he and his team/sub-agents start work 3pm and finish around 7pm.
A normal day for all three of us goes like this:
Harun wakes up around between 830 - 9am, has his bottle around 930am then 1 - 130pm has his afternoon sleep for 3 hrs.
Wakes around 5pm has bottle and 2 hours later dinner.
930 - 10pm has a sleep again until my hubby and I head off to bed which is pretty late as we are both night owls around 1-2am. We feed him again then get him to sleep until the morning.
:p
Hi
wow your bub sleeps a lot! (compared to my miss-stay-awake)
My girl goes down between 7 and 8 if I'm lucky. Wakes frequently (I lose count) and is up between 5 and 6 am.
Daytime I'm doing well to get 3 x 20 min naps. Sometimes I get an hour and then a half hour.
Can't complain she was sleeping 5 hours in hospital and then through the night from 7pm to 5am at 6 weeks.
This is just her new 6 month old pattern!
Kat
WOW Mandymoo, you have one awesome little sleeper there!!
Hi Everyone,
My DD is 7 months old and goes to bed about 6.30/7pm, she wakes at about 5.30am which is fine with us as we are all early risers anyway. Sometimes we have a cuddle in bed for 1/2 an hour, depending on what we are doing for the day. Lily goes back to sleep at 9am for about an hour :( , how quickly an hour goes when trying to get things done before she wakes up!. She usually has another sleep in the afternoon about 1pm for 1 to 11/2 hours, bliss :) .
Lily is the most restless sleeper though, she blows raspberries, cries in her sleep, tosses and turns, passes heaps of wind :) .
Isn't it amazing how much we love our sleep...........................

You have helped put my mind at rest. Whenever I look at suggested feeding regimes they mention a 6am feed for my 8mth old. She wakes to see her daddy leave for work at 6:30am then has a play and goes back to sleep and I dont even hear her until 9am. Im glad to hear DD isn't the only one to do that!
answering the question, DD goes to bed about 8-8:30pm and wakes 8:30-9am. She has a morning sleep about 10am for an hour or so and again about 2pm (in time for Oprah!) :)
We may have a sleepwalker on our hands though. A few times she has scared the cr@p out of me when I have gone to check her and I find her up on her hands and knees looking straight at me and when I flip her over I realise she is fast asleep - very creepy!

Hi Brenda
My dd was born premmie at 30 weeks and she was put in a routine from the very start by the nurses. They would let her wake, feed her then put her to bed, and continue that routine. When she was placed in an open crib, when I could hold her when I wanted to I would let her wake, change her nappy, feed her and put her to bed. Then she would wake and do it all over again. So when she finally came home I kept up that routine. She has been sleeping through since about 4 months. She is the best baby to put to bed. She never cries, she knows when she is put in bed its time to sleep. My parents are amazed at how good a baby she is when she is put to bed. I wonder how long it will last

Hi Kelstar78
Well I am glad there are other babies out there aswell doing the same thing. I beleive that she would cry if she was hungry or wanted to get up, but if she is happy in her cot just talking and playing why get up and disturb her, and why not sleep in for another hour or so. My husband has told me that a baby has to work around you and not you work around the baby. So that is what I have done and it has worked to my advantage. :)

Hi There
My DD has never slept through and she is 5 months. The best she has ever done is 7 hours and that was out of exaustion. She goes to sleep around 6 pm then will wake 2-3 times till about 830 pm then sleeps through to about 10-11 pm. usually she will then sleep till about 1-2 am then 4 then 6. During the day she has 3 or 4 30 min sleeps. I have been working at improving her day sleeps as I find it draining as I seem to spend my whole day putting her to sleep. I thought my night sleeps were under control but reading about these wonder babies that sleep through and actually seeing in writing how many time she wakes at night makes me think I should be working on the night sleeps.
But it is all a work in progress !
Not that long ago I could spend all day just to get a 30 min sleep and then still be putting her down for the night at 1130 pm.

My 9mth old son sleeps about 11 hours a night. Goes down between 5.30-7pm and sleeps until somewhere between 3.30am-5.30am. Ironically he sleeps until 5am when he goes down earlier and wakes at 3.30am if I keep him up until 7pm. It all depends on when his afternoon sleeps was and I work on his tired signs. He usually has a nap of about 1 1/2-2 hrs at starting between 8-9.30am and another 40mins-1hr from somewhere between 1.30pm-3.30pm. I would love for him to sleep until 6am but reading all the other posts, he isn't doing too badly. I'll just have to accept bright and early starts. Putting him to bed later only creates a tired and grumpy early riser instead of a happy early riser!

Thomas will be 4 months this week, bless him! And he's been most amazing bub since he was born. Sleep well and not a cry baby.
He only wakes up once during his night 'feast', wakes up at around 6am-ish when his dad is getting ready for werk. He's alright during the day as well (1 nap every 2.5 hrs playtime something like that!)
He loves to laugh and giggles, happy lil chap he is...
Bliss! :)

Raleigh is 11 weeks old and she has a relatively stable routine.
8am feed & nappy change then plays with her Fisher Price Gym
10am feed & nappy change then bed
1.30/2pm feed & nappy change. Plays for a few hours
4.30/5pm wakes for a feed and is awake for about an hour or so
6.30pm bath
7pm feed
7.30/8pm bed
3.30/4.30am wakes for feed & nappy change then back to sleep until 8am.
It was hardest for the first 6 weeks but now she's pretty much settled its great.
Until we put Eloise in a stable routine she'd be up and down all night like a yoyo. Used to drive us mad! She'd be over-tired and then we had no hope of getting her to sleep.
Nowadays she's in bed by 7-7.30 without a peep and sleeps right through until about 8ish. If she's got a cold or teething she might wake up and grizzle for about 5 minutes during the night but that's it. I've been really lucky! During the day she has about a 2-3 hour nap from midday. I don't let her sleep any later than 3.30 because that puts her night time bedtime out of wack.

Hi all! :)
Brianna is 5 1/2 months old now and she has slept through the night since about 8 or 9 weeks old! We have her in a really good routine which I started when we were still in hospital. At about 7:00pm she has a bath, a top-up feed then goes straight to bed. She plays in her cot sometimes for a bit then falls asleep. She's usually asleep by 7:30- 8pm. She'll sleep through till about 7:30-8am in the morning - whenever I get her out of bed. She'll happily play in her cot until I get her out at that time! She is a noisy sleeper though! Her sleeping habits are similar to mine... I could happily lie in bed all day! :p
But I owe her good sleeping all to having a good daily routine. Without it we'd be a mess! She feeds every 4 hrs through the day. We go with feed - play - sleep. (In this there will be nappy changes, baths etc.....)
It works really well for all of us, and all 3 of us are really happy! (and thats what matters most!!!) Its amazing what a good night sleep can do!
Now if only I could do something about my hubby snoring......................................
