Just wondered if any of us are missing out on the baby bonus?

The change comes into effect on 1 January 2009, households earning over $75,000 in the 6 months following the birth of the child will not be entitled to claim the BB.

Poll coming. (Please no debates on whether this is right or wrong)

I don't think we'll miss out (I voted other) simply because I'm having an elective, which means in all probability will be having bubs early. Given bubs is due on the 2nd, I might just squeeze in. I see the ob on Wednesday.

We are self employed. So can make our income whatever we want. If we end up having bubs after Jan 1, we could consider adjusting our income as the extra would help with the mortgage but, to be honest, getting it paid out in fortnightly instalments is a big pain & I don't think I'd bother.

we are not in that salary range, but it will be pretty annoying getting it in installments instead of the lump sum. But we can't complain, it still is an awesome blessing!!

What is the income cut off?

I'm assuming we are fine though and will still get it, although it wouldn't really matter if we didn't. It's a nice bonus though!

I agree it is a blessing to get it, if you do.

I also agree the instalment thing is a bit of a pain - we used it last time to pay the mortgage for 2 months so I could stay off work.

With the instalments it's easier to just fritter the money away.

Yes we will get it. Unfortunatley we earn (as a family) waaay less than this :(

I thought that you didn't get the baby bonus if your combined family income was in excess of $150,000 after the birth.

Also, I understood it will be means tested for those that earn under the $150,000 threshold.

Have I got it totally wrong?

your correct on that the baby bonus wont be given to families earning $150,000 and over or a single parent income exceeding $100,000 and for those who do recieve the bonus as of jan 1st 2009 with recieve it in fortnightly payments. parents who have been proven to not handle money or wealthfare of there child will recieve it in vouches.

We will still get, but I don't like the fortnightly payments.

If you get the lump sum you can pay things with it, as a fortnightly payment you will have to be strict and in a routine of paying the amount you get to pay the mortgage and is it worth that on a fortnightly basis.

Hi guys, my hubby earns less than 150g a year but close to it. To do that he is away for 3 weeks and back for 3 days. It sux but we do it so we can have the extra $$ I dont really care if we get it or not but why they make it hard on us who still have a lot of outgoings is beyond me. I dont mind the fornightly payment as i will use it for baby clothing and other stuff that pops up that bub will need. It was 8 yrs ago my last bub was born so i need all the help i can get lol.

I am in the same situation as you. I expect to have bubs around 38 weeks by elective CS which means he/she will be born sometime between Xmas and NY.

:yelclap:With my new DD being the 24th Dec, I will be eligible.

Otherwise, we would not have been eligible!

The installments thing is for families whose income in the 12 months after the birth is less than $75 000.

So, as far as I can see it, if your family will earn up to $75 000 a year after the birth, then BB in installments.

If your family earns between $75 000 and $150 000 a year, then normal BB.

If your family earns over $150 000 a year, then no BB.

Sorry, not due in January, just interested in the topic.

Thanks, Bron for the info - now I'm even MORE confused .

How the heck are they going to police/check it - it must be a case/case issue then  ...probably based on previous years tax return maybe? Oh, geez - they sure like to keep us on our toes. But at the end of the day, it is a 'bonus', so we should all be greatful for that.

We will still get it. I am not too worried about the installments this time though. We got the main baby stuff with ds1. It would probably be good for us in installments as it will be a bit more like a wage for the 3-6 months that I don't work. I am only working 3 days a fortnight now, so the instrallments are only a bit less than my income anyway. I am just glad that we will still qualify for it!!!! :yelclap:
