Hi there, Olivia is 7 months and I have started giving her yogurt for desserts. I have noticed when I do, she is restless at night and not sleeping. I wasnt sure if it was a coincendence or not so have kept her off it. She has since been fine in sleeping but then the other night she really played up again. I couldn't work it out until My Mum suggested it could have been the chocolate custard I had given her. My Mum sent this over for an Easter present and she has never had it before. I didn't even think about the milk content.
Has this happened to anyone else? Could she be lactose intolerant?
I read some babies get quite congested too with the protein in dairy. Olivia recently just got over a cold too, although I'm sure it was a cold not due to the protein from the yogurt, as she was very snotty. No temperature and generally still happy.
Hope someone can shed some light for me. :fingerscrossed:

She may not be lactose intolerant as such, but if she had only just started having dairy, her little system may take time to adjust. The protein in dairy is very hard for the human gut to digest.. Although in saying that, yogurt is a better form as it is easier to break down as it is partly fermented. (I think that is the word...) What kind of yogurt does she have? I would stick with plain, natural yogurt, or the Vaalia baby stuff. Steer clear of jar yogurt desserts, I have my doubts as to whether they are really yogurt... Just go slowly for a while, I remember Bridie having dramas like this, but she is fine now.

Thanks Carlia. She was having just plain natural yogurt with fruit that I put in it.

nasal congestion is a symptom of a mild milk protein allergy (like mine).

intollerances are where the body cant digest the food - symptoms are usually wind, tummy cramps, sometimes headaches. allergies are immune response reactions - rashes, hives, nasal congestion, and in severe cases anaphalaxis.

If you want to try it, Liddell's make a lactose free yoghurt. You could rule out lactose intolerance by trying that. If she still has problems with that, then you should think about dairy proteins.
