I just noticed a thread discussing a particularly well publicised late term abortion case. I thought it might be fair to post some factual info surrounding the case.

http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/vic/VSCA/2006/85.html

You can also get the general gist of the case here too-albeit with less jargon, but still appropriately referenced and from a credible source.

I think it is important to stick to the facts, particularly when discussing a real-life case:yes:

This is not a personal attack;)

I just think it is important if we are going to discuss a real life case to provide a reference-so people can decide for themselves with all the facts. I hope you can understand without taking offence.

sorry, i didnt mean to get defensive, it is just that i was the one that kept talking about it so i thought it might be aimed at me! i mean, if it is for general info, good on you! i definitely think people should know about this. I was just thinking that if it was directed at me, i didnt see anything in there that was inconsistent with what i had said.

i definitely understand and i am not offended just didnt want their to be a misunderstanding :) but definitely good on you for providing knowledge and information

No it wasn't directed at you. I am sure you ensured that you were well informed before forming an opinion;), I just want others to do the same.

It's so easy to misread or take information out of context here on the hub, I just think it's important to quote a source so everyone can come to their own informed conclusions-rather than relying on what you or I have to say.:shakehands:

As a mum with a child that has short stature among other hurdles in life I cant help but wonder what was going through this womens mind hav done this, surely she wasnt very educated on short stature (forgive me i wont use the term dwarf if you dont mind) people with short stature can live very full lifes, yes they can be prone to some other complications but never the less its not a death sentance although for this ladys child sadly it was.

I can understand why some parents have a late abortion if there baby has a particular syndrome that makes them incompatable with life, and that continueing with the pregnancy is only delaying the inevadable, as i can only imagine how traumatic it would be to continue to carry your baby to term knowing that only minutes after birth if not before it wil gain its angel wings, but equaly i can understand why some mums wish to contiue with the pregnancy to term just for those first few moment after the baby is born, for some that is worth the extra few months of the pregnancy and its what keeps them going, Thankfuly i have never been in the situation where i have had to decide i hope i never am.

I would hope that any one who is terminating a baby at such a late gestation has ful knowldge of the childs diagnosis, and to terminate over short stature well clearly this lady lacked knowledge on short stature

I honestly can't speculate as to how this lady came to her decision & given the forum category it would probably be innappropriate to go into it here.....but I just wanted to say that I think you are one very special mummy with a very special little girl and I can't tell you how much I admire your courage & strength.:flowerz:
