yesturday afternoon we were waiting for the mechanic to come to help DP get a tyre off our car coz it had gone flat and i wasnt feeling to good so MIL offered to take me to the dr's. she offered to watch DS while i go in to see the dr. well i waited about 25 mins to see the dr i was in there not even 10 mins and i come out and MIL had given DS dark chocolate. IMO dark choccie would have to be the worst kind to give DS. and when i said "you shouldnt give him that its not good for him" she said "oh isnt it?" and i was so peeved. i mean it was chocolate the recpetion desk had sitting at the desk for anyone to take and whats if it had nuts or something in it and he had a reaction to it you know?i told DP to have a word to his mum.coz when i tell her stuff it goes in one ear and out the other. do you think im over reacting ?its not the first time she has given DS food right before his meal time either. and its always stuff with lots of sugar in it so he gets hypo.

actually just wanted to point out that dark choc is the best chocolate to eat, for kids and adults!

Is it??

I gave E dark chocolate once but it was too rich for her and she threw up. :barf:

But yes, I agree - MIL should have known better and at the very least asked you first.

Razzle yeah I read it in a book not that long ago how in today's society we all tend to give our kids the milk chocolate and the bars marketed for kids ie milky way etc all use the milk chocolate yet the dark is sooo much better for you. It went on to say a chocolate should contain 65% cocoa or more.

Saying that though milk chocolate is better than white chocolate for kids apparantly.

I can't find my book at the moment but when I do I will paste the whole write up about the chocolate in here.

cody gets a bit sick from dark choccie we learnt that when he kidnapped my sisters choccie bar on christmas day. last night he was so hypo and was not intrested in his food or bottles coz he was feeling too good.
im glad im not the only one who thinks MIL should ask first.

Absolutely she should have asked first. My mil, although can be a pain, would not do something like that. If she did, she would cop an earful from me and knows it. Gee, I sound like a ***** don't I. Its not that she just knows I feel strongly about stuff and we do tend to agree on most things like that.

My mum does this all the time. I haven't learnt to live with it I thinks she likes to control the situation. If I wasn't there or didn't know about it I wouldn't say anything next time she give him it without telling you. If you don't trust her don't leave him with her. That is what I have done.

I would tell your MIL again politely that she should check with you first before giving lollies, chocolate etc. If she does it again - get her to look after him when he is hypo- i did this to my mother and now she completely agrees with our rules about chocolate lollies and biscuits. She couldn't cope with DS#1 extreme behaviour. I got her back for not listening.
