Pre-washing nappies - detergent?

Do I need to use detergent when prewashing my cloth nappies?

Just a little bit for the initial wash only. I only use 1/3 of the recommended dosage of powder for a full load of nappies.

:iagree: I give mine 3 pre-washes, with detergent on the first one only.

I use half the usual amount because I can't bear to put any less (:laughing:) but pay for it dearly because I need to do once-monthly strip washes!!! :o

I just do a rinse cycle with no detergent and then put a little bit in with the full wash.
They come out perfectly clean.
