Hi everyone,

I had an internal scan and was advised that I was around 4 weeks preganant. On the notes from the scan it says - There is an inrtauterine pregnancy. Viability not confirmed. The whole viability not confirmed part is stressing me out a little. What does that mean? I also have had no morning sickness and my boobs are not sore at all. Do you think that it is just too early to have any symtoms? I read that if you have morning sickness you have less chance of miscarriage. Am I at a higher risk? Also the lady doing my ultrasound said I could go back at 6-7 weeks and by then I would be able to see the heart beating however my Doctor said she does not to see me again until I have seen my OB (which is booked in for the 19th of July). Do you think it is ok to go back to my Dr and ask for a referral for the 6-7 week  ultrasound to put my mind at ease? Sorry to be blabbing on. I know I should just be excited to be pregnant, however I am very scared of something going wrong!

Any responses would be very much appreciated.

Best wishes to all of you

Beck

Hi Beck,

the scan basically meant that there is a pregnancy sac there but there was no heartbeat seen beause it is too early to see one. You can't usually see one until at least 6-7 weeks gestation, that would be the reason why the ultrasonographer said to have a repeat scan at 6-7 weeks. I didn't start having morning sickness until about 6 weeks so don't stress there is plenty of time.
If you are worried I would ask my GP for a form to go and have one done at 6 weeks. Just relax my friend, I know it is hard believe me, as you know I have just been through a miscarriage, but I'm sure all will be ok with you.

Congradulations again, and I hope all goes well, Hopefully I will have some good news to share with you soon too

Hey Beck, like Pippa said, just too early to detect a heartbeat... I remember when I had a scan at 5 weeks and I was told that there was no heartbeat, which she said would probably be the case as I was only 5 weeks and the heart doesn't start to beat until around 6 and a half, 7 weeks... I went back around 7 weeks and there was a heartbeat which was exciting... But believe you me, you never stop worrying your whole pregnancy, There is always someone to tell you there gory stories, sometimes it is just better to stop them in their tracks and say "I don't want to hear it"... Otherwise you put yourself through undue stress... Sorry to babble, I am sure all will be fine, and as hard as it might seem, If anything happens there is nothing you can do about it, so you might as well just relax, and take each day as it comes... It's a wonderful experience... All the best, Haana :p

I don't know if it's true or if any studies have been done. But I think morning sickness has been linked in part to HCG levels. A woman with twins generally has very high HCG levels and also worse morning sickness. But in terms of fetus viability, doctors don't look at the total HCG level but at the HCG doubling rate, that is how quickly the number goes up. So it may be that a woman has a perfectly viable preg with HCG levels that are doubling fine, and yet not high enough to make her feel ill. That's my understanding anyways, I might be totally off base.

So I don't think you're at higher risk unless you have some gyn medical condition or have miscarried before.

I also wouldn't worry about not having had any sickness- I am now 19weeks and didn't get any at all. It may be too early for you to have any, or you could also be one of the lucky ones (like me :D ) and not get any.

Good luck and try not to worry.

I am due next Monday and didn't have any sickness either - in fact I had no symptoms at all really except slightly bigger breasts (and they aren't even that much bigger at all - bummer :) !). Try not to worry if you don't follow the "average" - noniandlilysmum is right - its the beginning of a life time of worry I think. Good luck!
