Hi

I'm starting this thread because I want to hold my head up high and say I'm proud of my boy even though I would not call him particularly `advanced'. He is 12.5 months and he's pulling himself up but not close to walking. He has a few little words that are hard to understand. Even though the gross motor skills are not quite to the level of his walking peers I am happy to wait.

So if there are any parents out there with late starters, come and join us and celebrate their personality quirks. Sol is very social, happiest when he is around other children. He loves being outside and likes to copy what his peers are doing. Hi favourite game is catching the ball and he loves any toy that makes some noise. He loves climbing stairs.

I would really love to hear about some of our other late starters......

My DS#1 was a late starter too..and I was so glad. By the time he walked (about 13mths) he was strong and capable of balancing. My nephew walked at nine mths and spent the next 3 months covered in bruises and scrapes from 'crashing' all the time. My DS#2 is nearly 4 months and not looking at all like rolling. I love the fact he is staying my baby!:D

My bubs started walking at 16 and a half months. He climbed at 12 months before he walked.
I think he was scared of walking cos his older brother would sometimes knock him down!
He says a few words that mainly only I can understand.
But Im not rushing him cos I know he is clever at so many other things. Like making me laugh. He's a clown!

My family are all late walkers, we're talking 18 months to 2 years old. I walked earliest at 15 months - in our family that was considered very, very early. My brother did not walk until he was two and a half. My daughter, Jessica, is 14 months old and she is showing no signs of walking soon. On the other hand my sister has a friend who walked at 6 and a half months.
When people say their kids walked late, not starting until 12 or 13 months, I think "That's not late! If a baby in our family walked at that age - we'd think there had been a mix up at the hosptial!"

Well bubs is 13mths & even though he did try to take a few steps the other week i think it was pure chance & he hasnt even bothered since !
Im happy enough though because i know he will do it when he is ready he only started doing a proper crawl at 10mths whereas everyone we know has had crawlers from 6mths. Againt it didnt bother me even though i was worried at one stage something may be wrong.
Im glad he hasnt been an early crawler or walker because ive had more time with my baby being a baby & not stressing over what he is getting himself into now LOL.
He is a very happy bubs who loves babbling & talking but i think whats scary is the fact he has worked out who the "Ladies" are LOL whenever there is a female around boy oh boy does he put on a great act ! He giggles & smiles does coy head movements etc. I definately have a ladies man on my hands hehehe :p

Hello Clesthaven
My boy is 21 months and is not walking yet. But he is trying so we are waiting for his first steps. What did the doctors say about your brother that walked so late? It will be interesting to know since doctors have been negative about my son.
Regards

DS2 started walking at 13 months and DS1 at 14 months. Neither of them are close to talking though... they say a couple of things which only I can decode... and 'jabble' a lot... but they're almost 2 and the only things they really say are 'mamma' and 'dadda' Oliver will say his name (a-ma-na) if you ask him.... and is calling everything a 'dog' but that's it. Jordan's not interested. if he's hungry he just stands next tot eh fridge and starts nodding his head. very cute. they can shake and nod their head for no and yes... so we communicate that way. But I try to ask open questions so they have an opportunity to 'attempt' an answer. What time did other peoples bubs start talking??
