View Full Version : When isn't it an issue?
Last night I made a mercy dash to the chemist after coming out in hives from an allergy. I told the pharmacist I was still breastfeeding so I needed a bf freindly antihistamine and he asked "how old is the baby?", I said "Almost 13 months" and he told me that at that age it's not an issue with the medications you take as they are only having a few feeds a day. Does that sound right to you? I mean, yes she only does have 2 bf's a day (morning and night) but still, whatever I take is going to go through to the breastmilk so how can it not be an issue? Or is he just another one ill informed on bf'ing? Anyone?

He's ill informed.
Anytime a baby is getting breastmilk, what goes into the mother is going to go into the breastmilk. He might have meant that if your baby is only have, say, one breastfeed a day that it will be out of your system by the time their next bf comes around - but it doesn't sound like it.
For what its worth, Claratyne is a safe breastfeeding antihystamine :)
