View Full Version : Exercise with Twins

I am a worry freak and I am concerned about the amount of exercise etc that I do. Exercise has always been a VERY big part of my life and every day I usually go for an hour to hour and a half walk with my 3 kids. My husband works shift so he gets to come with me most of the time so he can push the pram but on the days that he cant - I use the treadmill at home.
Does anyone know whether this sort of length of exercise is not recommended when having twins/multiple births? What is the recommended amount of exercise whilst pregnant with twins? I know twins are considered to be "high risk pregnancies" but would this sort of exercise do any potential harm?:)

I have a heart condition where they have deamed my pregnancy high risk. Im not meant to do too much exercise at all. With my exercise i try not to let it raise my heart rate much, so a just do gentle strolls and such.
Hope that you can get the info you need :)

When i was pregnant with my twin boys i suffered severe back pain, i ended up doing pre natal pilates and Aqua Mums (Aqua aerobics for pregnant women), i found it fantastic, i was doing up until 4 days before giving birth.
I do know that during preg you cant have your heart beat go past 140, its important to have somesort of physical activity but since all pregnancys are different i would advise you to speak to your OB.
If you have anymore questions please dont hesitate to contact me
Good Luck

Hi there
Thanks for your response. Did you carry your twins to full term and were they delivered naturally?
I am so hoping to deliver naturally but i have been told that as routine, i will be given an epidural in the event that I need to have a c-section. Did you have to have one??? I have only delivered naturally and really do not like the idea of someone telling me when and when I can not push. But I guess if that is the best for the babies then so be it.:)
Do you have any other advice that may come in handy?:fingerscrossed:

Hi Jayne,
My boys were born at 37 weeks with a C/S, my waters had broken, i was actually booked for a C/S at 38.5 but the boys had other ideas. It was a very easy procedure. While i was pregnant my OB asked me how i wanted to deliver and i am the one that said i would prefer a C/S because i didnt like the idea of pushing twice. If it was one child it would have been different. Since this was my first i didnt want to push my body any further. Matthew was breached so in the end a C/S was necessary. The delivery is up to you, i havent had a natural birth so i dont know what its like.
Through out my pregancy i just kept doing gentle exercise, i have always been an active person so i needed to find something that was going to keep me fit. Pilates is great because it allows you to adjust your posture. Also Aqua Mums is great because you cant feel the pressure in the water.
Just take it easy. Do you work? If so go on Mat leave a little earlier. LOOK AFTER YOURSELF
During your pregnancy and after the babies are born dont be afraid to ask for help as its a real shock to the system but its all worth it.
I loved my pregnancy more than i thought i would and 5 months into motherhood has been great.
Feel free to pick my brain i am more than happy to help, if you want to talk privately please dont hesitate to PM me. If you live in Melbourne i can give you details of the Pilates and Aqua mums if you are interested
