View Full Version : At What Age
At what age did your baby start holding his/her own bottle?
My DS is 4 months & is trying to hold it himself but doesnt yet have the cooridination required. He gets frustrated when he sees my hands on the bottle & tries to push them out of the way. It is making feeding time quite a long winded exercise because he constantly fighting to hold the bottle but cant control it.
PJ was probably around 6-7 months, he was very determind. Nat didn't hold his till about 9-10 months.

I think T was around 4-5 months (but only when mostly empty- couldnt hold it full)
But she was trying to hold it from about 3 months. I kept giving her almost empty bottles to hold herself, made for more washing up, but stopped the struggles!
Ajay is nowhere near it!! and he is just over three months! Goes to show that they are all different

I think Mac was about 5-6 months? And Charlee started probably at about 6 1/2-7 months.

DD1 was over 12 months - but she was lazy, I used to sit her on my lap and hold her bottle for her for every feed and she figured why should she put in the effort if I was willing - she was physically able to hold a full bottle at about 8 months but just refused to.
DD2 was 5 months and wouldn't have a bar of anyone else holding it for her - she even used to fight to hold onto it with me for ages before she could hold it herself.

DD was holding from probably 3 months old. She holds her own bottle all the time now - she's 8.5 months.
I understand how it is when your bub can't really hold the bottle well but tries anyway. At least my DD didn't push my hands away...

My son has just started to hold his own bottle - and he is 16 months! He could easily have done it earlier but like schmell's DD1 I guess he figured why bother when I was doing it for him.

my DS is almost 6 months and has started to hold his bottle nearly every feed. He still struggles abit and drops it, but he enjoys doing it him self. Maybe just let your bub try hold it him self while you are still holding him in your arms and keep your hand close by, just in case he drops it. :p
Good luck, it feels so much easier when they start doing it themselves.
