I was hoping to hear from people trying to conceive for their 2nd baby. Our son is now four and I was 25 when I had him. We were in no hurry to have another thinking we have plenty of time. I went off the pill about 16mths ago and still no pregnancy. I spoke to my doctor last week who has told me that after 12mths of regular unprotected sex, it is classed as infertilty. She has ordered some blood tests for me to be taken on day 3 and day 17-21 of my cycle to determine that I am ovulating (my periods have also been irregular). I just find it dificult to get my head around the fact that our son was so easy to concieve it took just 2 months and now we seem to have problems.

I"m sorry to hear it's been such a long wait for you. We got pg with #2 reasonably quickly, but have just had a miscarriage :( It's so hard when things don't go according to plan isn't it?

I hope you get good news with your tests, or at least that they work out a way to help you. :hugs:

Hi there,
I can definitely empathise with you are we have been trying for #2 for about 3 years. We are further along the (medical) path than you, so for what it's worth, I can share some of our experiences.

We also conceived our daughter very quickly (after 2 months of being off the pill), so were surprised when nothing was happening. After about 18 months, we went to our GP who was sympathetic and had us run some tests- to check that I was ovulating and DH's sperm count, both of which were fine. She referred us to a gynaecologist (which took a while to get in), who had me do an ultrasound to check that tubes not blocked (they were fine) but showed signs of PCOS and possible endo. Put me on clomid for 3 months, which didn't work. Then referred to IVF.

IVF doc had me do a laparoscopy to rule out endo, also D&C but did see polycystic ovaries. for the most part though, I was diagnosed with 'unexplained infertility'- medically speaking, we should have been able to conceive. Did 2 rounds of IUI then went on to IVF. First time, my estrogen levels were too high and they had to cancel treatment, then we took a break, 2nd time they were able to collect eggs and transfer 2 embryos (none to freeze) but they didn't take. We are now assessing where to go from here. Will likely try IVF again as they have a better idea about my body and how I react to the drugs now. We have also considered natural fertility approach (Jocelyn Centre) but seems very expensive and have been unable to hear directly from people who have done it.

Anyway, that's what we've been going through over the past 3 years. During which I can't count the number of friends, family, acquaintences who have had babies or are pregnant. At the same time, also have other friends who are going through similar issues. Am now 36, and so is hubbie, so haven't given up hope.

Anyway, hopefully you won't have to go through everything we have but at least you willl understand what they are trying to do medically. They try to rule any issues out (starting with the least intrusive tests), then move on to more intrusive medical methods.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Good luck!

I am also TTC baby # 2 with no luck. I fell pregnant with DS within 3 months of trying. So I thought # 2 will happen straight way, I am wrong. We have been trying since early December 05 and still no luck. My periods are very irregular which of course doesnt help.

All I can do at that moment is to keep working out in bed :smiliedance:

Wishing everyone out there is the same boat the best of luck. I hope my next post will have a BFP!!!!!
