hi..im very new to this so hopefully i do this right!!
I have just moved to adelaide and am 21 weeks with my second child (my first is 7) and i had a terrible first labour which ended in a haemorrage/ blood transfusion so im hoping to have an elective caesarean this time around. I know that this time around it may it go well but im not prepared to got thru it again and i think it should be my choice....but the doc at the hospital doesnt agree with me:banghead:
Does anyone know what the deal is in SA? can i find a private GP and pay him to deliver at a public hospital?

Can I ask what hospital you have tried? We have 3 major public hospital in Adelaide and I would be trying them all before paying a private OB if you were happy with public to begin with. Private OB can be very expensive. Im not even sure that one will deliver in a public hospital to begin with unless you go in as a private patient and then thats more money if you dont already have private insurance. Have you backed up your concerns with Dr's notes of your last delivery? (Not that you should have to)

I went private at NECH with a private Ob and I had an emergency. I loved the Ob and the hos.

Although I completely understand psychological issues with births, I can understand why the OB would try and convince you not to have one. You are much more likely to haemorrhage having a caesarean than a vaginal birth. Obviously it is your decision though, so I would just go to your GP and ask for some referrals to OB's and call around. Most private OB's are happy to do elective c/sections. Otherwise, if you post in the "Looking for an obstertrician" section here on BH, you might get some more responses.

Good luck with it and I hope you get the outcome you are looking for. :)

Hi there, don't know if this helps but my mum had the same thing happen when she gave birth to me and she went on to have 3 more vaginal births with no problems. Otherwise I would shop around the public hospitals and see what they say about your situation.
