About 4 years ago i was told that i was never going to able to have kids because i had polycystic ovaries. I was really up set about this. But at the time i was not wanting kids at the time i wanted to know why my period had stopped. So me and my partner did not worry about using anything to stop me get preg because it was a weste of time and money and about a year and a half later i was been sick a lot so i went to the doctor and the doc wanted to give a preg test and i told him that it was a waste of time because i can not have kids but he tld me to do it anyway so i did and it was pos i didn't know what to say :eek:i walked out crying i did not know what was happening i had a blood tast the day later and the u/s a week later. the blood test come back as i was 6 weeks preg and so we waited a couple of day so we can have to u/s and in the u/s the guy ask how many weeks i was and then half way thought he turned around and said you are 16 weeks preg and we ask the sex and it was a boy anyway i had Damian on the 7/7/06 and we were so happy :D
and about 6 months after Damian was born we wanted to try and have another one:fingerscrossed:, so we did for a while then i went to the doctor and told him my story so he sent me for blood tests and a u/s to see if i did have polycytic ovaries and yes i do have it so he sent me to a gynecologists.
I started going to the gynecologists a year ago, they looked at all the test and see that i did have polycytic ovaries so they started me on provera to give me a period i had to take this every 2 month and put me on medaformin i had to take 1 tablet a day and a diet and told me that i had to lose 10kg before they would give me the ferfility drugs and to come back in 6 months so i did that i was 112kg and when i went back i was 103kg and they told that i had to losse more about another 5kg:banghead: and told me to stop takeing the provera and take the medaformin 3 times a day and to come back in 6 months. ok i did all of this and was still trying to have a baby. went back a couple of weeks ago and the gynecologists and i was 94kgs which i think is really good so they said before they give me the ferfility drugs they had to do blood tests and i had to go no a special diet for three day before the test and i also had to have an U/S and had to go back to the gynecologists in 2 weeks to give time for the tests to come back. and i went back 3 days ago and all the tests come back as really good and that i m readly for the ferfility drugs
then he said BUT we are not going to give it to you :geek:
and as anyone would be a was up set crying and angery cause i sent a year going to this gynecologists and he truns around and says that then and that he want to send me to a ferfility clinic which i do not have the money for one of those places and i said that and he truns around and saids that is not my problem so i seid that i want all of my test that i have done and i walked out:banghead:
and now i m look for help
if anyone know of a good docter around the sutherland area plz tell me and if any one know anyway to help plz plz plz tell me

Many Many :hugs: to you hun.

Sounds like you have done an awesome job in losing weight and keeping everything under control. Long time ttc is hell.

I do not have PCOS (have endo...) but I have a lot of experience with ttc and with fertlity specialists and fertility treatments in general.

Firstly - are you anywhere near Westmead Hospital? that is a public hospital and has incredibly cheap fertility treatments.

Secondly - I would make the appointment and go and see a Fertility Specialist near you. It is only the cost of a few appointments, and likely he will give you a drug called clomid which will help you ovulate and regulate your cycle. (I think it is taken in conjunction with metformin which just helps control your sugar levels). A LOT of women with fertility issues conceive on clomid without needing any further treatment. It is just a tablet taken on cd2-5 of your cycle, and some bt's and scans - so is not too expensive (when compared with IVF etc).

Then if that doesnt work you can reassess your options then.

Keep in mind, that the weight lost etc is not wasted. It WILL help you conceive easier, and will make pregnancy easier.

Also keep in mind that PCOS is a medical condition of which a symptom can be substantial weight gain ....so losing it is a major acheivement!!! Congratulations!!!!

First of all i want to say a huge congratulations on loseing your weight!!!:yelclap:
I to have POCS and was told we would never have children! Low and behold i had two Miscarriages and then after loseing a lot of weight (25 kgs) was told i was pregnant and we now have a little boy(20 months). We have been TTC for nearly 15 months now an i am on clomid. Which is to help you ovulate.

I am not in your area so i can't help you with the Gyno. BUt i just wanted to let you know keep your hopes and spirts up. YOu have done the first step by loseing weight. I would maybe go back to your GP and speak to them and they maybe able to refer you to some one else.
Keep your chin up!!!:hugs: :hugs:

clomid will usually help you with that.

As I said - pls go to the FS .... they should be able to help a little without too much.

I cannot beleive that your gyn wont give you the clomid!!!!

Anyway - many :hugs:

The gyn is VERY limited in what he can do to help, so that is the most likely cause of him wanting to refer you to a FS. I know you dont think you can afford it, but do some research. Like Julie said, Westmead Fertility Center in Sydney is really affordable, and you even get back a large chunk of the initial visit from Medicare. We are in a similar position in that we thought we couldnt afford the expense, but we are making it work (doing every other month, etc). Im sorry you are going through this, I too have pcos and have been trying for #2 for 18 months now. The best piece of advice is just to research, research, research...Good luck! :)

hi
im only new to this site but i have one of the best gynos in Sydney his name is Dr Simon Mccaffery. i was told by gps for years that i was fine when i saw dr mccaffery he jumped into action i had 3 surgerys on my uterus in 12 months due to pcos i have severe scar tissue in my uterus and have been trying for another baby for 5 years with no luck. my gyno put me onto diabex today he said i should be pregnant within 6 months. the problem with women with pcos is they r resistant to insulin. the diabex is often used with type 2 diabetics. you will increase your chances of falling pregnant with pcos if you lose at least 7% of your body weight which i did. the diabex will also help you lose weight but its main job is to get you to ovulate which as we all know doesnt happen often for pcos suffers. please feel free to email me if you have any questions as ive been studying pcos for the last 12 months now. there is info out there its just really hard to find.:goodvibes:

:)Hi Cass2008,

What a wonderful world PCOS is! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 13 (am now 32!) and was put on the pill to regulate my cycles (as I was too young to worry about getting pregnant obviously) I stopped taking the pill when I was about 25 because I was sick of the side effects. When I was about 27 I thought I may have been pregnant and as it turned out, my PCOS had gone haywire again. I was sent to Prof John Eden who was my god send. He put me on Metformin (after my GTT came back through the roof) I lost about 40 kilo's and my cycle is perfect. I have been on Metformin now for about 5 years and have only just recently come off it as my doctor wants to see how it goes clean for a while. We are in our first month of TTC, but it feels like FOREVER because we have been planning it for so long!
If your not happy with what the doctor says, find someone else. The last thing you need when TTC is more stress! If you want any info on Prof Eden, let me know!
:hugs: Kaz
