View Full Version : How good are you when TTC?

When you are TTC do you still do the things you enjoy that are not necessarily recommended during pregnancy?

By that I mean things like lifting heavy weights, abdominal exercises, back sleeping, smoking, drinking, eating listeria laden goodies?

Or do you give them all up and live like a saint?

Or do you give up the good stuff between ovulation and AF arriving (the 2ww I think it's called) and go back to your fun loving ways while you have AF and before ovulation?

Or do you scale it back but still live a little?

Poll coming.

I'm an out and out sinner. DS wasn't planned and we were all but living on maccas meals and sundaes at the time:laughing:. And I was on a 3 week cycle. As for TTC this time I have my moments of goodness but they're few and far between.

I try to be good while trying, IYKWIM... although, having said that, I still do heavy lifting (because I'm a mum and have heavy things, including children, to lift!)... and occasionally, have coffee because I am an addict.

But otherwise, I do try.

I'm always good. :D

I exercise just as I normally would, once I get a BFP I tell my trainer and she fixes up my program.

Well I don't drink or smoke or do heavy exercise anyway so I pretty much do the same as when I'm not TTC. I have been trying to cut down on chocolate though, but haven't had much success yet:o

No drinking, smoking here as it is. I don't even exercise but that's not necessarily a good thing :p I did cheat occasionally with food though... very rarely, but not with the big no-no's like smoked salmon from the deli etc.

I have definitely cut down (although I am not a smoker now anyway) but the reason I ask is the other day I ate sushi which I don't normally eat when pregnant. I have just started TTC and I suddenly thought  it could be 9 months before I get anymore tuna sashimi so better have some now.

We're always in the TTC category because we don't use contraception, so I always have the possiblity that I'm pregnant. I'm generally good, I don't do the big things like drinking or smoking or drugs. If I need to take any medication, I make sure it is safe and for breastfeeding too. I eat normally though:o

I gave up smoking, and tried to limit coffee.
I'm not a frequent drinker so just ensured I didn't drink during the 2ww.

The month I fell was chaotic, had not believed I would even have a chance at conceiving.
Drank ridiculous amounts of coffee to keep me going for all the functions we had, smoked at the functions and had a few drinks.

I do, however, recall in absolute detail how at (looking back now) 10dpo, I poured myself a vodka and lemonade. Smelt it and did not want a bar of it. I drank water all night. That, in hindsight, stands out.

We've been trying so long I've stopped doing pretty much anything that could hurt a potential baby regardless of what cycle day I'm at. No caffeine, no alcohol, I never have smoked, no soft cheeses, no processed meat, etc etc.

I was TTC with Cobes, one week late for my period, peed on a stick, nope, BFN... so I went tp a friend's birthday party and wrote myself off... found out I was pregnant 4 days later  :o

But no, and I won't cut back next time - now that I'm a mummy I'm a little more subdued anyway :p

I gave up drinking alcohol, any sort of medication unless absolutely neccessary (except pandadol) and caffine.

I still walked 30 mins a day and still ate anything I wanted like Sushi, hams etc until I got the :bfp: then I gave them up instantly.

With DS#1, I didn't know I was pregnant until 6-8 weeks into the pregnancy.

Is it even possible to get pregnant without getting totally sloshed (at least once, more if you're lucky) whilst being unknowingly UTD?

I dont drink that often, but if I do, my rule of thumb is nothing after 5dpo (implantation). I still exercise and lift weights throughout my cycle as from what I understand, it would take a really significant event to prevent implantation...situps wont affect this. Having said that tho, Im 18 months ttc without any luck...BUT, I only started really exercising about 4 months ago. I dont smoke, and I will take meds unless Im in the ttw. I eat normally for the most part...soft cheeses, deli meat, etc. included. Like someone else said, Ive been ttc for too long to deprive myself of such things. :) Each to their own I suppose...

Oh dear that's exactly what happened to me the first time. I am "trying" to be good this time.
